I am no techie, but have you downloaded the latest version of Java? I know I have done that (as well as updating Flash player) since I joined SOL.

Are you behind a corporate web proxy? SOL authentification has some problems with some of those (if they are "load balanced").
No corporate or other proxy. Java usually updates automatically. How can I check if it needs to be updated now?
You need flash player 9 or higher. Other than that, if you are using internet explorer, try Firefox instead (or Chrome or Safari).

Thanks for trying to help. See my first post: Windows XP Home 2002 SP3, Firefox 3.6.3, Adobe Flash 10,1,53,64; 1 Mb/s connection
And you're not by any chance located in South Africa? :) (the major ISPs there proxy the users access)
He appears to be sailing under a Barbados flag.
Sometimes I get stuff like he describes happening on my Vista machine using various wireless networks.
I usually can get this fixed by disabling the wireless connection and then re-enableing it.
I don't remember how XP works in getting to "managing network connections" but in vista, go to "control panel"...choose "network"...then "manage network connections.
Right click on the network connection and choose "disable". Once it says disabled, right click again and choose "enable". Then choose "connect to network"...connect to your network and all should be good.

If you are on a DSL or Cable connection, sorry but none of the above will work. And you are back to looking for proxies or other connection problems.
Captjack I am in Barbados. I am also using a wireless home network router. I tried your suggestion to disable, re-enable & reconnect but it has made no difference. I will try to connect on another Vista machine with cable connection to the router and let you know if it works. If it is worth anything, I have been playing on the VirtualRegatta.com site for the last year with no connection problems.

Update: I have updated Java to v6 update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). Shut down computer & restarted. Reloaded game and same thing: stuck at "Waiting for weather download...". Only thing left is to try other computer which my son is hogging. Will have to wait till he goes to bed.

SeaMiGo - if you go to this website http://www.java.com/en/download/ you can download the latest version of Java :-)

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
