Hi Rainbow Chaser, I updated Java to v6 update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02) yesterday. I believe I now have latest everything. Hope to try connecting later on another Vista computer with cable connection to the router.

Tried IE8 on the XP machine last night with same result.

Ok...wireless connection + son using vista machine...
A few weeks ago I was at local coffee shop and went onto their free wifi network. It was very slow, even though when I ran a test it showed 1.3 Mbps down. It took longer than dialup to load sol home page. And...when loading the flash client for the race...hung up on waiting for weather.

On checking around the shop I found the young lady barista had her laptop out and was streaming music, downloading music from iTunes, Had skype running with friends, was updating and running her facebook page, and checking out stuff on uTube...all in open tabs.
She was using so much bandwidth that she hogged the capacity of the modeum.

Check out if your son is streaming or downloading vids or movies, or other huge files...that could be a choke point.
Son's computer seems to have been hit with a trojan infostealer. Computer was frozen from yesterday afternoon to this morning. Have been busy trying to sort that one out all today. Just tried SOL again on my XP machine & BINGO, voila, eureka, whatever - it worked, weather downloaded, chart is up, going to check it out now.
HURRAY!!! Welcome to SOL :-) and Well Done toCaptjack!!
Moicy boocoop, all!
Great - the effort will be worth it - lot different to VR!! (Although I'm still as bad - oh well, at least on here its my OWN fault)
You could probably catch me up by tomorrow morning :-)

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
