A3 - Leg3 Hobart to Sydney is ready for preview

For some weird reason the text in the description looks fine in the properties editor but will not format when I load the completed file in GE.

Let me know how it looks when you load it.

Leg 3 now set up and ready for preview.

UPDATE: 11 August: Leg 3 is now archived

Tyger - all the description etc is perfect as usual :-)

To view this leg, as you all probably know by now, log in as the sol boat:

USERNAME: sol
PASSWORD: sol

and then click here

The leg is open now for viewing via the sol boat but I will close it (temporarily) from tomorrow (Friday 10) afternoon until the weekend, as I want to be sure the SOL server is happy with the load of three active races (the Turkey race is a particularly large file!). If all is sweet as, then I will reopen A3-Leg3 and let you know when I have done so!!

:-D Another fab job, Tyger!

Another masterpiece.. I love reading the description of each race. Really sets the context perfectly.

The race is set up but as I am creating a new weathersystem for the area and just missed getting it set up in time for the update a little while ago, we will need to wait until tonight's wx to fill in before going any further. I suppose we could check the race with another wx system but better its all "good" and then if there are things to amend/correct/change we do it in one go.

:-)

I'll post the link later today.
Leg 4 is now available for previewing.

You know the procedure now, just log in as the sol boat:

USERNAME: sol
PASSWORD: sol

and then click here

The leg is open now for viewing via the sol boat but I will close it again tomorrow (Wednesday) about 1600utc until we get the timed race underway and then once loads are OK I will reopen this leg for preview for a few days.

Not sure this time about the placing of the Harbour Mark or the North Head one... seems a bit counter-intuitive for the course, but maybe that's me! edited:all sorted after convo + Tyger.

What do you think guys?

UPDATE: The race is now archived. If anyone wants it re-opened for review just holler!

Super... I like the race, like the legs... No complaints from me... as happy as an... oyster :-)

A3 - Leg5 Brisbane to Hamilton Island

Another leg for preview. We're getting into the Great Barrier Reef now so navigation will be a challenge.

See attached .kmz for your consideration.

Leg 5 should be named "Insomniac's Special". On par with Channel Is Ramble and Round Turkey. Lovely...
:-)
Yup... router boys will find the going tough... especially the sailors who use routers for all the races and have come to rely on them... So many course changes you can just as well do it SOTP

Sorry folks, I didn't get an auto-notification that this thread had been updated so didn't spot the new/draft Leg 5 until just now.

I have a couple of errands to run today but will get this set up soonest!!

This is what Aaron's mom has to say about it:

"We are all really excited that people we don't even know are putting so much effort and are so enthusiastic about it. At last a race Aaron wouldn't need to set his alarm for, or perhaps not. You have no idea how many times I heard "XTZ!!::" coming from his room when he realized he had slept through another alarm ring. He would be so mad!!!"

New Ice Age 2026 - Browerville to Longyearbyen

Our 2026 long-distance ice-boating challenge continues with a second race in Arctic waters, now from Browerville, where we arrived less than a month ago, continuing east, back to Svalbard’s Longyearbyen, leaving Canada’s Ellesmere Island to port and Denmark’s Greenland to starboard. It’s about 2500nm, which, if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you more than a day or three, thus to complete your first (of several) online circumnavigation of the planet of 2026!

The second race of our new series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones, takes us northward again up the Pacific Ocean, now from Samoa at 13.5 degrees South, across the Equator to Hawaii, famed for its breaking surf and active volcanoes, on the edge of the Tropic of Cancer at 19.5 degrees North. Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia

Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!

West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.
