Tyger - beautifully set up. I will do the honours over the next day so we can preview it here and then begin the workup for leg 2. Probably a good idea to have most if not all of the legs "in the bag" before we start racing.

Love the description - just perfectly done. Is an example to us all.

Thank you!
Nicely done Tyger
I like to talk a lot... sometimes I even make sense, mostly not...
Looks perfect, nice one Tyger.
Fantastic Idea Guys and Gal's.

Trev.
OK folks.. Leg 1 is now set up in sol for preview.

UPDATE: 1 August: Leg 1 is now archived until it opens for racing.

To see it you will need to log in as the sol boat, i.e.:

USERNAME: sol
PASSWORD: sol

and then click here

Opening a GE file

For those who haven't before imported a file into GE, but who have GE installed, just do this:

Click on the link in Tyger's post, then double click on the downloaded file.

With GE installed, GE will open and the file will be under Places as a Temporary Place. Double click on it and you will be zoomed to SW Australia!

To see the amazing Description, click to open the sub-folders of the race (in the Temporary Places location on the LH side of GE) and then RIGHT click on the A3LEG1 link (you can see it saying Course Summary) and then click on Properties.

This right click/properties option also opens each of the waypoints so you can see the decimal waypoints Tyger has set and I have separate set up in SOL.

Hope this helps!

RC, Tyger

Unless there is a reason otherwise, would suggest Point Nepean mark go right on the point of land as opposed to having it offshore. Just a thought.

Otherwise, looks sweet!!
Can't wait to see the rest.

I have compared the SOL preview with the GE render. When I put the course together in GE, I used the low water mark at Pt Nepean. SOL must show land above high water and in GE you can see the difference. IRL you could not sail east of where the mark is placed and leaving it where it is might be a nice little trap for those not paying attention ;-)

Thanks for the spot ShamPir - as Tyger says I don't think it hurts to leave the mark where it is. Maybe we should rename it Point Nepean Mark as its not on the point itself?

A sort-of convention has arisen whereby [name+Mark means something offshore where name by itself is on land

Key to avoid is the possiblity of a mark being placed in such a manner that the intended sailing line can be avoided. So, for example, if you put a mark offshore the S coast of an island, but the intention was to leave the whole island to Starboard, then it could be possible to comply with the mark rounding by going between it and the island, thus "avoiding" the intended sailing line.

I am off for the rest of the day but look forward to any other comments (I will close the preview before the Channel race starts tomorrow) and seeing leg 2!
