Hi all ;)

We at ITA_2011 have a small gift for you all . ;)

Gilles and I promised to ourselves that if we won the Tall ship race steering the Italian Navy Amerigo Vespucci school ship we would have tried to post a couple of pictures taken last year in fall in Venice , when Gil and I met and visited the Vespucci together . One of the pics shows Gil and I in front of the steering room , that we used succesfully during the past 48 hours ;) ;)
Andrea , aka ita10267 , was not with us in Venice , so we will pretend that when the pic was taken he was in the planning room depicting our race strategy . Antonio , aka ghibli and invaluable fourth member of team Italy was on leave this time , so we will pretend that he was permanently in the cellar drinking his usual tons of beer ;););)

Enjoy ! ..;) ;) ;)

see you all in the next tall ships race leg. ;)

More info about Tall Ships Races finish procedure:

It is that if a vessel has not crossed the Finish Line (FL) by the time of the Time Limit, it submits its distance from the FL at the Time Limit. A Corrected Time is calculated for it and it has a place in the results list. (On several occasions the race has been won by a ship that never ever crossed the finish line.)

What happens is shown in paragraph 32.3
of Racing & Sailing Rules

The reason for this is based on the fact that the young crews who, in some cases, may have raced across the Atlantic Ocean or some similar distance, really don’t want to see just “Did Not Finish’ in the Results List after all their efforts. The formula was invented by a young crew member in one of our races in 1976 (a trans-Atlantic race).

For the current race the Time Limits are: 201900Z July, 201930Z July, 201945Z July & 202000Z July

Final handicapped results:

TCF (final)
AL	1.0000
AS	1.1927
B 1.2555
C 1.1991
D 1.0424

For complete results (to date) please see attached spreadsheet. The slower boats did end up taking a hit with rapidly fading wind at the finish. Reminds me of IRL.

Great work.
And interesting too.

Antonio (zero)
and now... the Cruise in Company!!!

remember to check out the brochure

Each Guest Harbour has its own series of events organised so once we spot a ship in port on AIS we can, hopefully, find a webcam to view it!! :-D

I don't have complete weather for this race, but this should still be much closer than we'd get IRL.

Remember to check out the first post in this thread for Useful Links!! :-)

Current Races:

Maryland to Alaska 2020
Inspired by Matt Rutherford's single-handed Red Dot Expedition around the Americas in 2012, SOLer Renegade proposed a half around from Maryland over the North into the Pacific and back through the Panama Canal, in 5 legs, 5 years later. Leg 2 across the North West Passage proved to be particularly challenging and so to create a proper Ocean Race, SRC has combined Leg 2 with Leg 1 to give you a race of at least 4000nm from Maryland to Alaska in our magnificent 90ft Monohull.

Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race 2020

When the winter weather turns cool in southern Australia sailors head up to the warmer tropics. Every year in August sailors from all over the world make their way to The Great Barrier Reef for the big winter regattas at Hamilton Island, Airlie Beach and Magnetic Island. What better way to get there than to race to the reef. This year Sailonline is joining with the racers from RQYS to race the 343 nautical miles from Brisbane to Keppel Island in our TP52s. It might be winter downunder but all you will need is shorts and t-shirts.
