SOL will soon be opening this year's Carib Rum Run and, again, SYC Members will be invited to change their boatnames to something a little more piratical!

The boatname change, applicable only to this race, will be made after you register for the race and does not affect how you log in to SOL!

For information here is last year's list

You don't have to use a name previously used but if you want to do so, then get your preference in quick!!

Name changes will be on a first-come first-served basis here in this thread so start posting your requests now and double-check that no-one else has grabbed the name you want!

All changes will be made as soon as they are noted and after you have registered for the race (once it opens!).

How will that affect other races going on, I thought the boat name is tied to the userID?

Just call me.....Captain Thunderbolt......The most successful Australian bushranger. Known as the "Gentleman Bushranger", he was shot dead in northern New South Wales in 1870. His territory included southern Queensland where I was born.

'Sir Francis Drunkealot' will do fine for me... He was a pirate after all... but went under 'privateer'... with the crown's protection. Much like the CIA today :-D

RC, I noticed that everybody is using a name separated by a space. I specified different because I thought it had to be a single stream. Any way we can change that to the proper way then? Ching Shih

Laozi - the names will be strung together (as I have them listed in the first post) OR parts separated by a "_" ... there can't be a space.

And, to put your mind at ease, the username doesn't change, just the boatname, so as it is the username that has the SYC Membership, then there is no problem with rankings.

Its a bit of fun we have done before :-D

P.S. do be careful what links you post on SOL - we do have SOLers who are quite young :-)

Leg Three of our Round North Island Series, in partnership with SSANZ, keeps the pressure on! From Cook Strait, the fleet turns north for a 187 nautical mile passage up the east coast to Napier. It may look like a quick overnighter, but shifting coastal winds and the ever-lively Cook Strait demand sharp focus. Dyer Dhow Derby 2026


Most winter weekends, SOLer wsguerin and his friends at the Mamaroneck Frostbite Association venture forth on Long Island Sound to race Dyer Dhows, originally designed as WWII tenders. Indestructible little boats, great comradeship and serious short sharp races of 10 to 20 minutes duration. Sailonline now invites you to experience the joys of the Dhow in winter, virtually, by way of a slightly longer 14nm race: from Mamaroneck to Execution Rocks, over to the Gong Buoy and back to Mamaroneck. And if the wind pipes up to 20kn and beyond, you'll find SOL's customized polar will plane, rather than nosedive!

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end.
