How does "ricos0" do it. Look on the Aegean race site to see what I mean. This is disturbing because it indicates a level of control that is NOT AVAILABLE to all SOLers
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
My first guess would be a mathematical formula that generates DC's that would then go into the DC editor in the toolbox. AND.... WAY too much time on their hands!Cool geos though... wish I knew how to screenshot it.
Rod, is really quite easy, if you know how to do it:
1- go to DC section of the toolbox:
http://sol.brainaid.de/sailonline/toolbox/
(available to every one)
2- insert 4 time a 90° change every 2 hours
3- then edit the file (copy & paste and change time) as long as you want to circle around....

the offset will be given by the wind evolution, no need to control it.

with the same list of DCs you will get different tracks...

sorry ricos for spoiling it, it is very nice :-)

One other consideration... since the sailing is being done with "real time" wind speed and direction, I doubt there is a way to make that many PERFECT geos without eliminating those variables. I have a suspicion that Ricos is a tender, like the Beer and BBQ boat, and therefore has a constant speed. Then the calc works out pretty well.
Hey Ricos.... have we figured it out yet????
Nope... I think I'm wrong. Just looked at Ricos' track again and the variability could certainly be explained by the wind shift. Does not (now) appear to be a constant speed craft.
WD Ricos!!!! Brilliant!!
No need to use "external" editors either. I've done a similar (though less insane!) path as 5 pointed stars using incremental DC in the steer tab. Just step the angle and time to suit.

It's a neat visualisation of both the direction and strength of the wind.
ricos0,

Thats a good way to train your crew and bowman.
Last time I did that with my crew they quit jumping overboard and swim to shore.

Antonio
Just for anyone else who wants to see.....and for the SOL art file. Here's ricos0's track.

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
