When you come to submit a proposal for a race, please try and include a recommendation for a boat. If you are uncertain then that's OK too as we can always pick the brains of the SOL community to find the most appropriate boat-type for the race in question!

I could not quite read the attached and converted to pdf which a bit more legible, at least for my eyes:)

Hi ...
I noticed that there are no X-Yacht represented on the list... That is really a shame. :-o

I suggest X-55 as a new entry to the list.
It's very fast ... is pointing high into the wind on the beat, and has very satisfying performance in all weather conditions. B-)
Hi Niels,
there is a X-332 in the polars used before 2009-12-16 at http://team-yacht-treff.de/polars/index.html

Hi Bernd

Your are quite right :-) i missed that one.. :-o
Still I think that an X55 would be a good supplement to the current list
I would take one too :)
Hi All... I am taking a stab at designing a few races and had a couple of questions:
1) I rarely see more than one boat type offered per race. Can there be more than one choice for a race?

2)Is there a way to see the polars for all the boats already in the SOL db?

3)A lot (most?,all?) of the SOL races appear to mimic IRL competitions. Is it acceptable to make a race that is a SOL exclusive? Maybe the Real World will follow!!

4)Finally, where do I send the races for review? I am happy to do them over after professional critique.

I am NOT a computer genius so I am learning a lot as I try to create some fun competitions. Best part about this activity is that I can now honestly tell people I sail a "SOLing".
Cheers!
I will try to answer your questions:

1) Once a year Jakob organizes a "choose-right-boat" (IMSYC)race. Basically his students design each a different boat for that particular race.
With exception of that race all other races are sailed on the same boat.

2)Go to Brainaid site at http://team-yacht-treff.de/polars/index.html

3)No need to mimic RL races. In fact, part of what makes SOL fun is to explore the world in ways not always possible in real life.

4)I would post your race here on this thread.

Hope this helps.
I am sure others will jump in with more answers.

Antonio

Thanks Antonio,
That helps. I am having some fun learning the Google Earth app and coming up with some fun, short coastal races. I am also on a quest to find the polars for a couple of my favourite boats and see if we could include them in the db. In the meantime, will stick with the existing platforms.

Cheers!

Kamchatsky to Tromsoe 2024

Just before the light failed entirely in Antarctica, Skip Novak managed to get his Pelagic 77 out of the ice and north up the Pacific to Kamchatsky. The sun is shining (24/7) and not a penguin to be seen, and Skip believes the Norh East Passage is ice-free (sufficiently) to attempt it, so all aboard for a c 4250nm voyage from east to west across the top of Siberia, Russia and Norway to Tromsoe!
