Board » General Discussion » WANTED: Testers new client

Hello all,

First let me bring you the good news that a SOLer has stepped up a while ago and started work on a new HTML5 client. We hope this client will ultimately replace the current Flash client, as Flash support gets removed from browsers over the next years.

This new HTML5 client is now ready for some testing. We would like to select a handful of people that want to (1) test the new client and (2) be a guide to the new client once everyone else starts using it.

As someone in this group
(1) you will communicate with each other about their findings and maintain a list of bugs and feedback together, and
(2) Once we believe the most important issues are all resolved, we will open the new client to the public and we would like you to answer questions in chat/forum when you are online and generally help people get started. If new problems are discovered, you can add them to the list.

For (1) it would be nice if some of the people in the group have some affection/knowledge of web technologies or software testing.

For (2) it would be nice if you are an active SOLer that is available in chat relatively frequently. It would be good to have some people from the non-English communities, like for example French, Italian and Spanish. But communication within the group and with us will be in English. Also SOLers from the Americas and Australasia are most welcome to join in order to have our "guides" spread over all time zones.

If you are interested to be part of this group of "early adopters", please send an e-mail to my @sailonline.org address: huib@
And if you know of people that may be interested, but sure to point them to this post.
I'm in... of course!!
ME!
I am user testing the new client. I would like the option to not have the night time effect, to have a sound when the new weather arrives and to be able to use the ruler to produce a Great Circle as we could with the old client. Otherwise it seems to work just fine.

When I went to set a start time on Silverrudder, as my router will not take the start, the clock was light years away from the right year and month. Presumably so that the programmers are not disturbed?
Helloooo!
I'm interested in testing the new client.
A few years ago I wrote this document to describe the development of the new client ... I hope there are useful suggestions.

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
