Board » Sailonline Yacht Club » SOL Sailing School, why not?

Posting a commentary about routing on SOL, I thought about this idea.
For the moment I would like to keep it in house, hence this generic com.
The first step to love a particular thing is to understand it.
A large part of the SOLers that appear to race are in early state of sailing skills, a bite like me.
One way to improve is by means of self-learning, well, like everything in our life.
But that takes an extra time, and sometimes a longer trial and error path and, demotivation sometimes wins.
No problem at all with learning from mistakes. The good consequence is that you never forget it - the mistake.
Anyhow the faster and reliable way to do it is by gathering experience with someone with more skills, of course, if that person wants to share with the others their wisdom.

The resources are here. The thing that’s missing is the persons will.
If this idea is wrong, easy, let’s forget it. By the contrary, if it has legs to walk I’ve have further ideas to share and discuss with all interested.
SOL can have one of the best online Sailing school.
That’s for sure.

Hallo JB,

For examplle here the are valuable hints to enjoy virtual and real life sailing.

in the section "Useful Resources provided by SOLers"

if reading this you come up with some question please just ask here or in the chat. Sol is open 24/7 ;)

For example I have personally to said I had the honour to crew a boat where everybody know exactly what a polar was. And IRL this is not granted at all!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Guam to Ouvéa

The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South. It’s 2400nm, and there’s more than a few other islands in the way, so mind where you go in your Ocean 50s. Race #1981
