Sailonline is delighted to announce that it will be partnering with Royal Akarana Yacht Club for the running of ANZ Sail Fiji 2014 which starts in Auckland on Saturday, 7 June at 1300hrs local (0100UTC).

RAYC has a long history of bluewater racing - it introduced the first trans-Tasman race in 1931 and its first race to Suva, Fiji. was in 1956. This year's ANZ Sail Fiji Race is the continuation of this tradition. RAYC is particularly pleased to see "Big Red", Steinlager 2, listed among the entrants. Steinlager 2 is owned by the NZ Sailing Trust which aims to preserve yachts from the past to inspire future generations of New Zealand yachties. Sailonline will be sailing its Steinlager polar to make a truly historical competition!

In 2014 there are 22 entries racing in 2 Divisions with the 2005 – Auckland to Suva Race Record of Konica Minolta (3d 10h 47m 40s) to beat.

Here is a screenshot from Expedition showing the real Steinlager 2 amidst the fleet of SOL clones.

Rod has just crossed Steinlager 2 and tacked to cover.

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
