Hmm. Maybe not fog, but "Stealth mode" would be really great. That would be that you could "dissapear" from anyone more than, say, 15 nm away from you. So that you could try to lose those "shadows" that sometimes appear. This time it's not a prolem for me...

Actually, I would think the day/night feature should absolutely follow the boat position sun azimuth, not the computer clock!

Hi, I think the Night Zone is just great, and adds to the fun factor of the game.

But you could easily have it as an option (that I would choose to have on :-).

Case SWE54 just makes my point clearer: he can now after St.Malo post 1-1-1-2-2, and I can just call with 1-1-1-3-3. However, in rankings, with my activity points he can not even come close.
As much as I hate to lose, it is almost as painful to be at the top merely thanks to quantitative merits ;-).

Thanks Jakob, I knew you would understand my delicate situation. And appreciate my needs to rest once in a while... ;-).
  • Re: Preliminary ranking system

Please, I want a limit on the "participation bonus points", like 1000 points (20 races).

I like the rankings now (obviously ;-), but as we are very even on the top, one missed race would mean giving up several placings...

Also, it is a bit funny, that in a race with less participants, the points difference between subsequent placings increases. For instance, if a pair mixes 1-2 finishes in two races, that who wins the race with _less_ participants gains an advantage in points.

Have to comment myself: it seems the weather is OK now.
  • Missing weather
    Board » General Discussion
It seems we are again missing weather infos, now two schedules 080327 UTC0500 and UTC1700.

This is not an complaint;-) I have plenty of old weather data to choose from, but the accurate weather is just an essential part of this game, me thinks. What I absolutely do not like is the possible "surprise" of an unscheduled weather update.

I mean, I'm not going to stay up all night fo just in case, I'm gonna sleep ;-)

Heh, maybe this should be put into perspective... you are not actually steering the boat or anything, rather "piloting".
I would be perfectly happy to give my possible "unfair update rate frequency advantage" to you dagge, and then we would see what happens. In fact, a slower response would perhaps have saved some unpleasant plus/minus error jibes & tacks, and miles lost...
    ;-)

Hey Dagge, that is just how the program works!
I mean, this is not 100% real-time, online, but more a strategy game.
The boats are updated normally about every 15 sec. Such a delay in a 5-day game is certainly not unfair?

Newport Bermuda Race 2026

The 636-mile Newport Bermuda Race is one of the oldest regularly scheduled ocean races, and with the Fastnet and the Sydney Hobart Race, it is one of the three great classic races of the yachting world. First raced in 1906, now in its 54th biennial, the Race can again also be participated in online. In real life, the race is open to entry in four different division – Double-Handed, St. David's Lighthouse, Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, and Finisterre Division – which in the past we have also offered online. This year, however, our online race will be all-in one-design in silky swift Club Swan 50 yachts, so that your results can count towards SOL’s SUPerBUDdy title, whilst hopefully still giving you a chance of overall line honours against the fastest yachts of the real-life Gibbs Hill Division, especially if you can find some forecast winds that don’t quite work out that way on the real water!

Thessaloniki to Port Said 2026

Welcome back to the Eastern Mediterranean for the fifth race of our Magical Mediterranean Series. Only marginally less unlikely to be ever raced in real life during SOL’s lifetime than our previous race from Tobruk to Iskenderun, this 710nm race takes us from Greece’s ancient northern port of Thessaloniki through the Aegean island maze, south east into the Levantine Sea to a finish in modern Port Said, in splendid Swan 65s!
