  • Re: SYC Ranking - Different races should have different ratings
    Board » General Discussion
I think the current ranking is as fair as it can be, as it was set up to have one ocean race going at the same time as a midweek/weekend race. But this doesn't seem to have been happening for a while.
The weekend races don't finish in the weekend. This is part of the reason I havn't rejoined and don.t race much, maybe others too.
Although it is great to have the buddy up races I don't think they have a place in SOL if they start at stupid times, like the current RNZ race which started at 01.00 midweek, hence i assume that is the reason that there were only about 80 boats to start on time, it could have easily been moved to the weekend.
We have to remember that some of us have jobs to go to, unlike the sailors racing in the real races.

Check in the morning. It will probably go into archives overnight as it only closed today.

    Glynn,
Your points are always calculated, but when you are a non member you dont see them or go on the ladder.
So the points you have acumulated will show up when you join.

    Hi Steve,
Yes it is possible...What you need to do is..ie:the next race starts at 12.00 midday UTC,Set your delay for 8 hours at 03.30 UTC( dont forget to set your course and tick the delay box).Your command will go off at 11.30 but your boat wont be released until 12.00.

    Hi Guys,
I am sure the ranking points are always there, they just arn't visable to non members. So when you rejoin your ranking will be about the same.

    Hi Mage,
The Christams race closed on 28th December at 23.00 UTC as was stated on the race discription on the home page.
Races have a closing date, so the server can be freed up, so new races can start!!
  • Colours
    Board » General Discussion
Is it possible to change some of the colours of things on the course.
Our own boat is Magenta, lead boat is simular. Sometimes when the lead boat jumps ahead you think it is your own boat.Marks, arrows, names and rumbline are red. In the shorter races when the fleet is tightly bunched it gets a bit hard to define what is what.Or maybe even put the arrows away from the mark, say one before and one after and the names further away from the marks. Also is it possible to make the BS and VMG numbers in the steering tab a wee bit bigger.
    Thanks

Removing the waypoint at Flannan and allowing the option to go east of the isle of Lewis might open up a new debate as you wont be going "Around Britain and Ireland"
As Cajun said in the IRL race you have to keep all islands to starboard thus making sure the boats go round Britain and ireland as the rece name suggests.

Refeno Rally 2024

Although since 1986 this 300nm course from Recife, Brazil, to Fernando Noronha Island has been run many times IRL, we have only used this route twice in SOL. This time it will be the route of the last race in the ARCH 2024 classification.
Although the winner of the general classification can already be determined, the fight for the next places on the podium should be fierce. There are several contenders and Dofour34 have them at their disposal. Since we are starting in Vida_Maldita's home waters, he will give us a 30-minute handicap. Or maybe we should give it to him? 😊

The Beagle in the Azores 2024

And west the Beagle went one final time to round the Cape of Good Hope on May 31 1836. Ashore, Darwin met up with the Astronomer Royal, Herschel, who just happened to be in South Africa at the same time mapping the southern skies. After sounding out his many ideas on evolution and extinction with Herschel, the Beagle now sailed north, stopping briefly in St Helena, Ascension and Brazil, and the Cape Verdes again, to reach the Azores on September 19, 1836. Fitzroy and Darwin at this stage were in a hurry to get back to Britain, but online in 2024 we will stay a little longer to explore this final remote archipelago in our virtual Tall Ship Class B Beagle, 630nm round and about the islands, minding as always in these waters not to bump into any large cetaceans!
