no work restrictions and all was working well untill yesterday when now all i get is a white screen. laptop with visa and the home pc which is same as work is fine. just need to figure out the flash bit somehow i think
GHOST SHIP ICON???

While sailing in "BETA" in the BMW Black Sea Virtual Race 2012 - Leg 2

I see two icons representing my boat.

1. a pinkish color boat icon & wake like I always have seen. but

2. right behind it is a brown colored boat icon & wake ( I logged on as SOL on another PC to check and sure enough
that was me.

The first Icon will advance with each update and then the second Icon will catch up ... sometimes the first boat icon will advance two times adding more distance between the two boat icons but then the trailing boat icon will catch up.

This seemes like it could be a problem when rounding marks... which boat Icon do I use??? I am sailing S.O.P. so my tacks are visual and not coordinate driven.
Just had the same thing happen.
See attached pic.

It ONLY happened if I select my own boat in the boat list. If another boat is selected to see their track, the ghost disappears... weird!!

here

Hi guys

Its a deliberate option designed to let folks know where the server actually has them - to avoid confusion about who is in front of whom.

It is a toggle-on/toggle-off option, activated by clicking on your own boat in the boat list.

As always the solid pink boat is the one you should use for steering.

:-)
Minor bugs using beta:
1) My saved boat list occasionally drops boats off the list. I just add them back in again.
2) The box where you type the text in when in the chat tab disappears occasionally, either completely off the bottom or party. I have to refresh to get it back.
I will add my two-cents here:

1. Chat input box slips off screen and needs to be refreshed - I have yet to work out if there is a trigger for this.

2. My saved boats list never saves - sometimes dropping out even when I just refresh. I figure it is something to do with my settings but as I have all open permissions for cookies etc in Chrome I don't know what I am doing wrong.

===============================
The boat list dropping boats isnt a bug.
What happens is, that you create a list of (say) 10 boats in a race on Monday. Then you load a different race on Thursday, and only 7 of those bots are in this latter race, then only those 7 are in the list created for this race. Which is then saved back when you log off under the same list name. SO if you happen to go back to the original race, 3 boats will be missing.

The chat input going off the bottom of the screen only happens on smaller resolution monitors, and I cannot reliably reproduce the problem to find a fix for it...

RC: Perhaps you could try going into Flash 'Global Settings' (right click the map) then 'Storage' (and the 'per site storage' button) and make sure it is allowed there, and atleast 1Mb.
There should be an entry for Sailonline.org. Delete the entry, then next time you login to a race it should ask for permission to save data locally. Alternatively see what amount SOL can currently save and increase it?
It is also possible that an external security app or system cleaner is either preventing Flash from saving to your local disk, or wiping it on a scheduled basis daily or something.

I have a feeling this is what is happening as everything else is good. It used to be that boatlists stored so long as I didn't close the window but only refreshed but recently they vanish on refresh.

Just am not aware of having set or done anything differently. I probably need to investigate each programme and give Sailonline permissions...one day!

Africa by Sea 2025 - Suez to Port Said

When Napoleon (briefly) occupied Egypt at the turn to the 19th C, he ordered his expedition’s Directeur des Ponts et Chaussées, Jacques-Marie Le Père, to evaluate the ancient, derelict, infilled course of a Ptolemaic canal connecting the Red Sea to the Nile via the Great Bitter Lake, versus a new canal to the Mediterranean directly. Neither were considered feasible – locks to climb a pauvre-surveyed 10m sea-level difference, or continuous dredging of the Nile, would both be equally financially prohibitive. Fifty years passed before the unlikeliness of Le Père’s survey finding was challenged and a French Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez obtained a 99-year concession from the Khedive of Egypt, Said Pasha, to construct and operate a canal from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, much against the will of the Ottoman Sultan, Abdulmecid I (the Pasha’s nominal overlord), and the wishes of the (Irish) British prime minister, Lord Palmerston. The year was 1859, the very number of this race (planning, dear boy, planning!), which, despite the canal’s double-super-tanker gauge and lack of locks, is strictly prohibited to sailors IRL. But not SOLers! 85nm in Fareast 28Rs to complete your circumnavigation of Africa!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
