Hi Hawk - thanks for this kmz.. all looks perfect to me (opened in Google Earth no problem)!

As you want this to tie in with your school programme do you have a particular week/month in which you would like this raced? To get good winds I would imagine October would be fun?

This will make a good weekend race :-)

As for boat-type.. what boats are used locally? Any ideas?
October is fine with me.
I´ll check boattypes shortly, and will return here - both a date for the race AND boattype!

PS! Is it possible to navigate in the low waters NE of Waypoint 2 ? I think it will be a challeging route there, but I dont know how it will show in the SOL-klient.

Hawk - I will set it up this coming week and if we need to tweak the waypoints I will mention it here :-)
TY RC - btw, I think it is better to put WP2 up the nothern tip of Island Aeroe - can you do that, or do you prefer a new GE-file?
Hawk
Great Race! I suspect the route may have to alter to WP1 as the Alssund may not show in the SOL client. I tried a race with an even larger water feature, and it did not show up. Alternative might be WP1 on the north tip of Nordborg (leave to starboard).

I'm sure your students will have a GREAT time with this race. Well done!

SP
Can one sail under / over Sundbrovej 54d57.54N 10d39.21E?

The GE photos show it is very close to sea level.

By contrast the Brovejen 54d56.51N 10d42.27E looks much higher off the water.

IRL is there much tide here. It would be an interesting tidal challange in shallow twisting waters vs the straight course in deeper water.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough!
BTW my mast is virtually 100m high!!

Thanks SP !
Fortunally, I can see the course on the SOL-client in the TSR-race :-) It is actually possible to sail the Alssund.

Unfortually the SOL-client does not show the Store Bælt-bridge (WP3), so maybe that WP doesnt make sence!

Hi Paul

I cant fint the positions you mention, but it is possible to sail the route I have made, both on SOL and IRL. BUT not with a mast, 100 m high :-) I will find another boattype !

There is practically no tide in these waters but a lot of stream (not sure, if this is the word in English, sorry) at Strib Lighthouse (WP 5). This winter I saw a difference of sealevel because of the strong stream, at that point. An amazing sight, that I have only seen at "Saltstraumen" in North Norway (close to Bodö), but it was caused by the tide).

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
