OK,I'm a dummy. I can't figure out how to see the various polars before picking a boat! Not much time left. Can someone point me the right direction? Thanks.
On the homepage is a blog about the race. Click "here" to see polars.
Duh! Don't know how I missed that. Thanks.

If I understand the handicapping correctly, 'uprising' is performing best in these low winds. I do like max VMG at 180 to the wind!!!!
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Interesting boat, uprising, actually sails faster downwind at TWS 8kn than at TWS 11 kn. How they do that?
Here is my suggestion about the polar for "uprising", as shown in both the original presentation and in the SOL screen. This was requested by "WhyNot".
It does suggest an error may have been made in deriving the polars---and that the superior performance of 'uprising' may actually be due to a calculation error????

That makes sence! I noted the "strange behaviour approaching finish line. Saw a couple of uprisings on "long final" sailaing approx TWA 180. Thought maybe I could catch them - but No Way. Suddenly they went into OverDrive:) Saw this in Navmonpc (and I know Nnavmonpc may not be accurate) Also uprisings well behind caught up. I think the boats are performing according to the weird Polar.

Africa by Sea - Abidjan to Swakopmund

Our exploration of Africa by Sea continues. Next, it’s off to Swakopmund, on the water’s edge of the Kalahari desert. It’s a wind-blasted coast, and a venue of choice for those seeking to set wind-powered speed records. More likely than not, we’ll have to beat into it in our Steinlager II, to finally find some shelter behind the walls of Platz am Meer where there is a marina of sorts. Only 2200nm!
