Trying making a poem with Mouthansar,
His name uses up a whole stanza,
But down in the south, where he's shortened to Mouth,
He's more well known than Mario Lanza.
Extracts from a chat somewhere past St. Ana on the way from Hong Kong to Auckland ... gobsmacked by the Doldrums:

Mouthansar:
Will you go to the East or the West
There is no way of telling what's best
The winds are so fickle
"Was will sich entwicklen?"
Asks Rumskib, who's sailing with zest.

While I listened to Carlos St. Ana
I was sailing an eastbound banana
Now, we're heading South
And the bard known as Mouth
Is wearing his Aussie bandana.

Dingo:
T'was early in the month of Feb,
I left to sail the VOR,
Told my wife I'd be away,
four weeks or maybe more,

That's fine she said, sail well my boy,
go fast for the Auckland shore
Now it's looking on the cards,
I'll sail right past her door.

Mouthansar
Dingo! That is phenomenal.
Nothing like the doldrums to turn the poetic side of a manbrain inside out :-)

There is a fine Aussie named Dingo
Who is currently leading this stint. Yo!!!
His wife is a dear.
She's steering him clear.
Of the beer joints to which he might else go.

(By 'stint' I mean overall VOR so far)

Dingo:
Mouth, I now realise there's a SOL version of haiku. Poem's are limited to 200 letters.

Nice one Mouth! :)))

<bZ>Mouthansar:
Haiku is a very different stanza.
Here's an attempt at the noble art:

An ocean becalmed
Plowed by furious keels
Rest the seas, sailor.

LOL ... Who's Mario Lanza? :-D

Dingo:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Lanza

That is a lovely haiku Mouth!

Mouthansar:
I am so proud to be compared to Lanza. I quote from Wikipedia: "Lanza was known to be "rebellious, tough, and ambitious." :-)

... also known for: " addictions to overeating and alcohol" Hmm ... still spot on!

(Looks like BBCode isn't working anymore)
Furthermore:

There's a species of the coyote
It's a prominent 'Stralian' floaty
Not quite like the gringo
It is known as a Dingo
A poetic and competent boatie.
Celebrating a fickle 3rd place in Hong Kong to Auckland:

There once was a man named Mouthansar
Who lived his life chasing a stanza
His mind in the bends
Harassing his friends
And just now in a sailing bonanza.
A keen young SOLer named Mouth,
Had entered a race way down south.
But by five in the morning,
He could see he was yawning,
So he took a long nap on the couch.
On the imminent threat of being Bonk'ed:

When you're racing a close race with Bonk
You're in trouble much more than you thunk
On your stern with a grin
You cannot let him in
This is one race you don't want to flunk.
On dicing for the minor places with Mouthansar and Dingo...

Well, tha’ didnae work
Guess I must be a burk
Ta think that a shift
Woulda gave me a lift
So I’ll have ta continue ta lurk

If we battle too much
A dog from the bush
I think it’s a Dingo,
Yes indeedy, by jingo
Will pass us, ‘like’ (modern parlance) whoosh

For avoidance of doubt
You must click on the route
Then the waypoints you’ll see
And the red ones will be
Stuck to the coust

Also sprach Mouthasthustra
Aha, yes, abracadabra!
“You make me hot, you make me sigh,
You make me laugh, you make me cry,”
Thus Steve Miller on the matter

After a month going nowhere too fast in the GGR, Tamalone was moved to compose...

This is the race that never ends,
It just goes on and on, my friends.
Some started sailing it not knowing what it was, And they'll continue sailing it, forever just because....
This is the race that never ends.
Clipping along
The Rustler
She's a conservative boat,
and she'll stay afloat,
through storms and high seas,
with the wind in the trees.
She'll guide an ol' fart,
eyes on the chart,
with a nose for the hustle
and the wind up her bustle.

Dingo
