A new version (14_2_1) has been released. Please download the user manual first and read the instructions on how to upgrade to this version. Files are here. The user manual has also been updated and now reflects all the available functionality.

This version should also support Mac and Linux.

I've made a new thread call AGL14 Issues. Please post any questions regarding issues and problems in that thread. I posted Sax747 reply in that thread.

If you downloaded the AGL14_2_1 update before 2020/08/04 05:30 UTC, please download and install AGL14_2_1_patch.zip as per the Update instructions in the User Guide. This patch fixes a problem where Condition DCs is selected and no DCs are loaded.
AGL14_2_2_update.zip has been uploaded to OneDrive. A small fix to an issue picked up by Dingo when checking DCs and waypoints using the Race Start was not working if the boat is moving. I've also added a button (Blue Peter) which is a toggle to tell AGL to use the start coordinates and time instead of the boat coordinates and time.

I've also added a new Parameter called Refresh Rate(FPS) which only applies to the OpenGL engine. This allows you to slow down the refresh rate of the graphics window and uses less CPU/GPU. Somewhere around 5-10 looks OK.
Is there a dummy guide to installing agl14_2_1 on Mac? I have AGL_2_5_7p2 running which I guess is an old version. I'm not so familiar with Unix/MacOS so i'm not sure how to do these steps

b.These files will need to have the execution bit set using the shell command chmod +xbefore they can be run.

c.It is preferable to add the export

AG14InstallDir=/SOL/Java14/export AG14Version=agl14_2_1export JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS=-Dfile.encoding=UTF8

into you /etc/profile. That way they will be permanently set.

AGL runs off shell scripts. All you need to know about shell scripts on Mac is here
Minor enhancement to allow font size to be set at run time from the GUI and font type and size set for the OpenGL graphics. Use manual has been updated. Release is available here
14.2.3 doesn't seem to automatically download GRIBs anymore :-(

This might help explain it:

Exception in thread "Thread-1" java.lang.NullPointerException
at grib.GribFactory.waitForGrib(GribFactory.java:215)
at grib.GribFactory.run(GribFactory.java:146)
at java.base/java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

Bimmer picked up an issue where the size of the graphics window is too larger (I run on a 4K monitor, so not an issue for me) and cannot be resized small enough to fit. I've made a change to allow rescaling to any size and the patch called AGL_14_2_3_p1.zip is available here. The zip file only includes the new jar with the same version number, so all that needs to be done is the unzip part of an upgrade. Make sure all instances of AGL are shut down before before unzipping the file, otherwise you will get a file in use error and it won't work.

For the 16th consecutive year, our SOLers are invited to tackle this iconic 250nm overnighter. The classic route charges out through the sound, leaves Buzzards Bay Light to starboard, rounds Block Island to starboard, and heads home.

This year's weapon of choice is the Beneteau First 47.7. A proven performer since its 2012 SOL debut, this Farr-designed cruiser/racer excels at leading real and virtual handicap fleets. Success will demand sharp tactical navigation, so watch the polars closely to conquer the sound's shifting winds!

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha

The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
