Board » Sailonline Yacht Club » NEW RANKINGS BY NATION - INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM

The SOL Management Team has decided to introduce as test in 2018 the publication of rankings by Nation both INDIVIDUAL and TEAM , an upgrade and revamp of the famous WIZ rankings that some of the older SOLer well remember.

The Rankings by Nation thread is here in the SYC partition of the Forum because, whilst the INDIVIDUAL rankings by nation are open to everyone irrespective of membership , the TEAM ones are reserved to SYC members.

Attached underneath you find a DOCUMENT illustrating the full mechanicals of the scheme.

At the end of each calendar month ( next in few days ) an up to date situation will be posted here for everyone to look at and start organizing improvements ! ;)

Please feel free to comment or ask for any clarification writing to -- coord@sailonline.org -- I will publish here for everyone information the most important comments and clarification requests.

Happy 2018 SOLing !! ;)

YEAR TO DATE INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM RANKINGS BY NATION

:)

January 10th 2019

With the closure of the last 2018 race, the First experimental year of Rankings by Nation , both Individual and Team, has come to a conclusion. The files with all the results are visible hereunder.

Australia led the Individual one , mainly thanks to the super performance in 2018 of its representative Kipper1258. A very strong Denmark in 2018 took Silver and the USA Bronze

The USA have won the Team league by far , thanks to an enormous strength in SYC Team membership numbers and race participation.Australia took Silver and Great Britain Bronze.

The 2018 Rankings by Nation were an informal test. From the amount of access to this Forum thread we have established that they were considered interesting , and therefore they will be continued in 2019 ,and enhanced with formal prizes in both leagues.

Stay tuned for announcements on the 2019 Rankings by Nation , that will appear in this Forum section in a few days from now.

Happy 2019 SOL sail-racing ! ;)

Welcome to the second of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . This second race is from Harlingen in Friesland down along the coast of Holland and Friesland to Vlaanderen’s famous port of Antwerpen – circa 150nm in Sailonline’s classic Clipper 240.

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Sao Tomé to Tristan

The fifth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back south down the Atlantic from Sao Tomé on the Equator to Tristan da Cunha on the edge of the Roaring Forties. It’s 2500nm; in your path the Benguela winds and current along the south west African coast, and behind that the St Helena High stretching halfway to South America. So, mind where you go in your Volvo OD65 version 3 (based on sampled real-life race data by kroppyer)!

New Ice Age 2026 - Neumayer Station to Scott Base

For a second-half of long-distance ice-boating, we take our DNs to Antarctica for a circumnavigation of that continent in two legs clockwise, in harmony with the prevailing winds (such as there are), beginning with a race from Germany’s Neumayer Station to New Zealand’s Scott Base. It’s about 3500nm, which, if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
