Board » Sailonline Yacht Club » Series Ranking and Dynamic rankings

I was looking today at the series ranking and I see that my ranking has improved in a number of series. This is due to the fact that some solers ceased to be members of SYC.

In my opinion, the series ranking should be kept unchanged after that series is closed even if a certain soler ceases to be a member. This way the proper series result would be a better historical representation.

I also think that the dynamic series should have a moment where it would be registered for the future. Ideally it would be the end of the year. This way one could see the ranking for a certain year. This one, of course, wouldn't also be changed with changes on SYC membership.

A last suggestion would be to move the older series to an archive area where they could be consulted.

All of the above are good suggestions and should probably be considered.

About keeping the ranking if not any more a SYC member. SOL policy has been that if you join SYC your previous results will count in rankings but if we freeze the rankings then this won't happen for past finished series.
But perhaps this would encourage people to join SYC at least at the time when a major series finishes.

One thing I have also thought is that only finished races would count for the rankings, at least for the continuing ranking it would be more clear. As rankings usually don't mean much until the finish it probably would make more sense.

On the subject of ongoing races: Fully agreed. It doesn't make any sense to have a ranking when the race is still on. Only at the end the proper ranking is established.

Since I'm on a suggestion mode:

I believe that in timed races only the best time of each boat should be recorded. All others should be eliminated. That should be reflected in the ranking too. The number of boats should be equal to the number of different participants, not to the number of runs.

(Timed races do not affect SYC rankings)

Not sure why but obviously I was labouring under a miconception.'

Apologies
