Commentary
By now most of you will probably have checked out the backstory to this race series but, in case you haven’t, here again is a link to it: Red Dot on the Ocean. Thanks to SOLer Renegade and our wonderful Super Maxi 100s we will be circumnavigating N America. This leg, from Greenland to Alaska saw the transit of the NW Passage – something that, in reality, has only recently become possible for yachts to do, as a consequence of warming climatic changes. The fleet split into several pieces, with the bulk heading north to take advantage of the shorter Great Circle distance to finish, some others being very hardy and venturing as far north as possible, and a handful taking of the advantage to sight-see and take in local info shared by SOLer xrupert. Legend has it that Vikings used Mount Odin as a navigation mark so to sail past it was inspiring.

All SOLers are now eligible to claim two Sailonline Honours Badges for completing this race – the Bluenose for crossing the Arctic Circle, and the North West Passage Transit.

Our podium are to be congratulated for their success – clearly the northern route was the way to go for success in the race. Well done guys!

Silverrudder - "Challenge of the Sea" 2017
Sailonline welcomes you to the second "buddy-up" with "Silverrudder - Challenge of the Sea" in the 2017 edition race around the Danish Island of Funen.
With shallow waters and a strong current this close inshore race is truly a challenge. One of three regattas around Funen each year, this race is the only one for single handed racing. Will our new X-99'er be a match for the real fleet, including the seventeen X-99'ers?
Time will tell!

It is highly recommended that you read these special circumstances for the start of Silverrudder 2017

Hauraki TIMED Race 2017
This TIMED race completes SOL’s Q3 sojourn on the waters of New Zealand’s capital-of-sail. This time we are switching our trusty Young 88s for the more muscular Young11s which on previous occasions have managed to lap the selected 35nm circuit borrowed from SSANZ in less than 4 hours and 35 minutes. Good luck!
