    Hi RC!

Just let you know I saw a little "glitch" in the big "SOL-Around-the-World-Race-Week", it seems like the date for the start of the first leg should be the 6th of november (if it should start on a sunday).
Looks like both tuesday and wednesday that week has the same date (1st of nov). Not the end of the world - just wanted you to know so there will be no confusion when the big race is getting closer. :)

    Regards, V71

    "SOL ECLIPSE 2011-2012"

(An extra edge in this is that SOL in swedish means SUN)

A team challenge with best 4 boats from each country each leg would be fun.

If SOL could contribute with small prizes as mentioned above, it would be great (membership to individual winner, maybe t-shirts or caps to best team), nothing fancy or expensive, just to spice it up a bit. :-)

  • Imoca leg 5 - the humble beast
    Board » General Discussion
There once was a humble dane called Mouthansar starting from Cape Horn East
The longer the race went on, it turned out he really was a determined Beast
The persevering man held the lead throughout the Race
The difficult weather along africas coast was almost like a Mace
Let´s hope it will be the humble beast who in Gibraltar will arrive first and start the Feast!

I am honored to be dedicated a limerick by the great poet. I bow and take my sailinghat off.
I also hope I can live up to the poetry and be the first boat to arrive the port of Cape Town.
The first cold beer, is going to be marked with your name on it, Mouthansar!

    Cheers, V71

Sorry for triple pics - something went wrong and I couldn´t figure out how to delete the attachments? (Is there a way to do that? - or maybe to delete the post and do it all over again, couldn´t find that option neither...) The smallest pic (118,4kb) is the only one you have to check...)

I don´t know if this has been a subject of discussion here before, the departure of the first leg La Rochelle-CapeTown is scheduled to 17th of october.

Maybe a bit late to squeeze into the SOL's racecalender, but it would be fun!

    Howdy!

I do understand that this is a very difficult issue and to meet everyone's needs are probably quite impossible.

My personal view of it all, is if the server allows it:

    1) pretty much always try to have a "long race" on it´s way - that is, oceanraces spanning 2-3-4-5 weeks (in these races it´s often enough to check your boat once or maybe twice a day). ( ---> About 8-10 races/year)

    2) Furthermore, weekraces (5-10 days duration) could be held say, twice a month. ( ---> About 20-25 races/year)

    3) And weekend/sprint races could be held every weekend. ( ---> About 50 races/year)

However, this is just my humble opinion - nothing is wrong and nothing is right, I think the important thing is that there should be races for all tastes and the different opportunity to spend the time, we all do this because it´s fun!.

Refeno Rally 2024

Although since 1986 this 300nm course from Recife, Brazil, to Fernando Noronha Island has been run many times IRL, we have only used this route twice in SOL. This time it will be the route of the last race in the ARCH 2024 classification.
Although the winner of the general classification can already be determined, the fight for the next places on the podium should be fierce. There are several contenders and Dofour34 have them at their disposal. Since we are starting in Vida_Maldita's home waters, he will give us a 30-minute handicap. Or maybe we should give it to him? 😊

The Beagle in the Azores 2024

And west the Beagle went one final time to round the Cape of Good Hope on May 31 1836. Ashore, Darwin met up with the Astronomer Royal, Herschel, who just happened to be in South Africa at the same time mapping the southern skies. After sounding out his many ideas on evolution and extinction with Herschel, the Beagle now sailed north, stopping briefly in St Helena, Ascension and Brazil, and the Cape Verdes again, to reach the Azores on September 19, 1836. Fitzroy and Darwin at this stage were in a hurry to get back to Britain, but online in 2024 we will stay a little longer to explore this final remote archipelago in our virtual Tall Ship Class B Beagle, 630nm round and about the islands, minding as always in these waters not to bump into any large cetaceans!
