Thumbs up from me for Fishermans Friend or should that be Fiend??

Home territory for a number of us and I know why Chipspitter has chosen these ports and the interesting title.

Just looking at the polar overlays this would appear to be an absolute 'no brainer' (please excuse the expression!!) with Class 40 well ahead on all points of sailing and in all wind strengths.

But stranger things happen at sea - as they say.

What however would be mighty interesting would be for each class to be colour coded (for this race only). This would give us an immediate picture on the race course - which could be quite exciting.

Second thought - rather than have a complex handicap system (if the colour coding was used especially) why not just have three seperate class winners?
    Keeps it simple.

    Cheers

  • Russell Runt

The recent Russell Runt does not show on the latest SYC ranking - is there a reason for this??

ALSO - with the forthcoming Boston Newport is it possible to look at the weather conditions before committing to boat choice???

    Cheers

  • Maui to Mazatlan???
Board » Flag Officers » Races
Where has this race gone - after slaving away for days and days - it seems to have completely disapeared from the race archive and results eradicated.

I did start to question my sanity - then I found the log entries on this board.

So why have the results been removed etc etc or am I beinig very stupid indeed (which would not be the first time)???

At the other end of the scale I remember being quite amazed to see Vendredi Trieze at 118ft taking off from the start line on the OSTAR a few years later than Jester.

Then four years after that in the next OSTAR things got completely out of hand with Club Med at 230ft.

Amid serious concerns about the safety of coastal vessels and fishing boats (one of the few sailing boats capable of running down an offshore fishing boat and being sailed single handed) the RWYC decided to introduce restrictions (up until then you could race just about anything).

After that most of the exciting developments in the OSTAR went down the multi hull route.

  • Admirals Cup?
Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals
How easy would it be to run a 'teams of three' admirals Cup type race (sorry I didn't use the race proposals pro forma for this but it doesn't really fit).

The idea would be to have three different rated classes - each team of three must be made up of one of each.

Placing would be based on teh combined score of all three competitors in the team.

Solo and teams of two could also enter the race but would not be eligable for the team prize.

The teams of three would self select and the race officer woudl be notified which boats were 'teamed up'. This could be done on the boat chat section or on the forum.

    Any thoughts?

    Best wishes

    Hi Incognito

Thanks for getting back - if you track back 46.2 nm's on my current track you will see a weird kink in my course tracker (you do need to zoom in)- this was for a period of I recon three to four hours taking me almost straight head to wind.

No instruction was issued for this indeed quite the oposite.

    Best wishes

  • Going in the reverse direction?
    Board » Technical Support
In the Figaro Transit currently running - I noticed my place had dropped overnight quite dramtically (should have set a CC I thought and OK another major blunder in my course setting - so whats new!). Then I realised I was going backwards at a speed of about .5 knots in exactly the opp direction to the one I had set.

How do I know I didn't set an incorrect course - well its still showing in my course to steer box!

So is this a bug in the system - how is it possible that I am moving in the other direction to the one indicated?

    Best wishes

    Robert
