Board » General Discussion » Drag & drop

I think it would be good to have a "drag & drop" feature.

This would off course only limit you to "behind" last boat in ranking, or DSQ for missuse immediatgely in order.

For PR it would be very convenient when you are too far away from start.

Laozi... an interesting idea to attend to the PR issue of having to "get to the line" if you have missed the previous PR.

Unfortunately, a drag/drop feature is not possible in the current program configuration. The GOOD news is that we have been working on ideas to improve the entire PR environment. Keep the suggestions coming!!

BTW... months ago, I tried to generate some interest for additional PR sessions. I ran a Midnight Madness (0000UTC) race on the same course at the 1900 (Greenwich Menace) group. The purpose was to engage SOLers in other time-zones that could not make the Euro-start. Had ZERO interest (except SMO, who apparently never sleeps!) Maybe try to resurrect something like that???

I hereby motion a request to setup a forum Board category "Suggestions", where individual threads can be setup to discuss various others.

I doubt that there ever will be a feature in the client to alter your boat position in any way. The boat movements should always be restricted to the sailing engine only.

However, if the reason for this request is attending the practice races, a link similar to timed races where you could move your boat back to the start line automatically might be possible. That functionality should probably be limited to practice time only and it would be disabled once the real race has started.
That would indeed be useful. Sometimes, late..., I decide to join PR and just no way to do it.

The way you suggest the window to perform the function sounds good.

Thanks.

Suggestions on where to put this would be appreciated:

Some time back I suggested to RC that the PR could be run as conventional races, with a sign up, a NOR etc, but run only for 3 hours. The advantages of this would be
1..Automatic mark rounding confirmation
2..Automatic 'tow back' to the start point, and the possibility for more realistic running starts.
3..Automatic registration of the finishing order.
4..Reduction in the work required of RC to record boats racing, finishing, and qualifying for SCOW.

I do not think that a three hour race for less than 20 boats would put too great a burden on the SOL server, as the Wx would be for such a short time only, and it would be running prior to the start of the actual ocean race, anyway.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
