2020 celebrates the eleventh time Sailonline’s virtual fleet has raced against that of the The Vineyard Race in Long Island Sound, in this classic race organised by Stamford Yacht Club – a race which was first run in reality in 1932.

On race day conditions were breezy and affording a reach from the start into the ‘Sound boding good for a speedy race, both in reality and on Sailonline. Sailonline was racing its J-122 polar for the first time and was hopeful that this would mean it could remain competitive with the main body of the fleet and so it was to be – 90 minutes down-course this is how the fleets were placed:

With tactics in play, the race developed on the way to Buzzards Bay Light and by the time the front runners were rounding the mark, the remainder of the fleet was spread out behind. By Block Island the leading group was forming and the winds in the Sound lured a few to gamble. Many congratulations must go to our podium for taking the top three spots from a fleet of 144 boats flying 30 different national flags. With 18s separating 1st and 2nd and 29s between 2nd and 3rd it truly was a tussle for the win! Once again Sailonline thanks Stamford Yacht Club and the Vineyard Race for awarding Vineyard Race caps to the virtual podium.

Lake Vättern PYOC 2026

Back in 2013, longstanding SOLer Musigny and his friend xthyra invited us for a three race tour of beautiful Lake Vättern in the heart of southern Sweden. After many years, we return there for a quick sprint from a start in front of the village of Brandstorp, either way around Visingso island in the middle of the lake, but PORT HAND ROUND a buoy off the Granna piers on the eastern shore and back, once again avoiding Visingso as best you can. At least 20nm in trusty Scandinavian 11m One Designs; good luck!
