    Hi 47box.
    I think this is already the case of both servers.
    For DC Checker The IP adress is usually
    192.168.1.10
    Port 5010 (which port you can edit).
    Idem for Brainaid's toolbox NMEA server.

    Il you are interested I have developped a PHP script which scan NMEA and AIS sentences from the Brainaid's servers and push them in a file (json data format).

  • Re: Getting TWA and TWS of "friends" boats.

    Hi everybody (and Koppyer / Kipper of course)
    I need clarification about grib restitution for SOL.
    1) Are the U and V components of Grib files from DCChecker's SOLGribXml folder in m/s or in knots ?
    I think they are in m/s.

    2) The U and V values are the TWS components, with U the vertical component and V the horizontal one
    like in the Sol'd blog
    https://daysailer.wordpress.com/2011/02/20/how-to-calculate-tws-and-twd-from-grib-components/

    That's right ?

    OK.

    I have made the modification :

    --- Implemented ----
    1) Get the list of active races

    2) The user select one

    3) Login with "sol" account
    -> return a valid token

    4) Get the boat list and position
    -> conversion to KML / KMZ map

    5) Archive : List of all KMZ files sorted by race and date.

    6) the TWA set up the type of sail :
    TWA <= 40° -> Jib
    40° <= TWA < 110° -> Genois
    110° < TWA <= 140° -> Gennaker
    140° < TWA -> Spinnaker

    7) TWA & TWS act on boat roll : more wind, more roll

    8) And last but not least, added new collada files for trimaran

    --- Implemented ----

    Future improvements

    9) Select which boats to display

    Attached zip: The updated version of 2017/03/25.
    Correction of fews bugs and many improvements like new models, Grib, Polars and tour.

    The english (and french) beta versions are here: http://voilevirtuelle.free.fr/SailOnLine/ge/

    BUT... the Free.fr server does'nt allow to retrive data from an another server so you can't use directly these scripts.

    You have to download them and set up your own local webserver.

    If Solfan web site (or Kroppyer's one) could hosts this code (after extensive testing and maybe few improvements, any SOLers could directly generate and download his own KML / KMZ map of the Sol fleet.

    My soft is ready (beta version)

    BTW I have found strange COG values :
    <cog>0.798365726218</cog>

    I think this is a radian value. Is'nt ?

    All the boats are going south this night on NSSANZ; I get :
    <cog>3.17281659391</cog>
    After conversion
    COG radian: 3.17281659391
    COG degree: 171.88733853925
    The right direction.

    I have not yet implemented TWA / TWS nor the sail selection.

    I have seen where DC Checker gets polars and gribs .
    Some more tests and I'll publish the beta version on my server.

    Thanx. If course I know (and use) DC Checker.

    I am implementing the direct access to Sol server. It will more effective than to depend on NMEA sentences which require un local server.

    I hope that the beta version will be on line this evening or tomorrow.

    I'll use my own server, but if you think that it would be better to use a SOLFan one, I can FTP the sources (PHP) (Creative commons / GNU licence of course)

    Thanx Kroppyer Kipper,
    This piece of code works "à la perfection" :).
    But this is only hull color. So I think the best will be to publish a form to allow Sollers to choose their sails.

    BTW is it a mean to get old messages from race 1018 chat because I have missed the comments about my pictures.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Suez to Port Said

When Napoleon (briefly) occupied Egypt at the turn to the 19th C, he ordered his expedition’s Directeur des Ponts et Chaussées, Jacques-Marie Le Père, to evaluate the ancient, derelict, infilled course of a Ptolemaic canal connecting the Red Sea to the Nile via the Great Bitter Lake, versus a new canal to the Mediterranean directly. Neither were considered feasible – locks to climb a pauvre-surveyed 10m sea-level difference, or continuous dredging of the Nile, would both be equally financially prohibitive. Fifty years passed before the unlikeliness of Le Père’s survey finding was challenged and a French Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez obtained a 99-year concession from the Khedive of Egypt, Said Pasha, to construct and operate a canal from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, much against the will of the Ottoman Sultan, Abdulmecid I (the Pasha’s nominal overlord), and the wishes of the (Irish) British prime minister, Lord Palmerston. The year was 1859, the very number of this race (planning, dear boy, planning!), which, despite the canal’s double-super-tanker gauge and lack of locks, is strictly prohibited to sailors IRL. But not SOLers! 85nm in Fareast 28Rs to complete your circumnavigation of Africa!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
