Page: 1 2 Next

Ahoi Sailors!

I know, this could be completely off-topic here, but this invoice is a result of evil technical problems.
We are in search of a email adress of the company mentioned above since we are stuck again in Greece and have to contact them.
If anybody of you knows the adress of anybody in the Volvo Penta headquaters, please mail to me at : " stoertebaeker@gmx.net "

Brief background:

Since my father wanted to be shure to circumnavigate without engine failure, he opted for the "best", but shure the most expensive option and bought for his lifetime trip a new Volvo Penta engine.
Already almost home, in Turkey it gave up completely. The Volvo workshop thought of a complete rebuild of the 2500h old engine, almost new in my opinion..
They said it would take 11 days for this job. 5 weeks after the 11 days and €6800.- just spare parts they were finished and we took off with high spirits. 60 engine hours later the engine is a real wreck again. Crankshaft bearings in the oilsump, scratchmarks in cylinder 3 and four, as well as marks on the crankshaft of those two cylinders.
We are now since seven days here in a
Athens, Greece where we sailed into Alimos Marina, having no working engine at all. It took these seven days to dismantle the engine. We meanwhile have to get home urgently. This whole story actually can't be true, with the "worldwide best boat engines", as one can read on their homepage. We sendt them a email through their hompage webclient on sunday, no reaction until now...

So if anybody knows contact data, please submit, we
feel this is vital for the rest of our journey!!!

Thanks in advance, Roland from Alimos Marina, Athens, Greece

Why ovlov? Are they trying to hide?

Now, thats what I call serviceminded action!!

Good luck in Athens - I hope your troubles will be ended soon.
Why ovlov? Are they trying to hide?
New Zealand is "Down Under" as is Australia mate!, especially for the Scandnavians of Volvoland.

Are things "Up-side down" OR
"Down-side UP".

Do you "Turn the light UP" OR
"Turn the darkness down"??

Do you have a "flat" tyre on your car OR
has "all the air gone to the top"??

Do you drive on the left hand side or the right hand side of the road, or become normal and drive on the topside of the road like the rest of us????

It's all a matter of perspective and view points.

A difference in expression can give a fresh look at life.

Try and enjoy it and see if others can handle your "new" view point OR point of view.

See once you start, its hard to stop.

Why are there "road works" signs when it really should be "road repairs" because the road is obviously KNOT working. (English needs more "k"s or we could loose that letter soon.)

So Ovlov is simply Volvo backwards . . . or is that forwards ????
Simply clever.

As is the universal yachting law, if your bum is knot pointing to the sun, and you only have two tools, one too big and the other too small, then you are knot attempting to do that repair correctly.

BTW in this position, head between your knees, this is what is seen on the motor, is it knot?????

Ahoi Sailors!

Thanks very much for support, meanwhile Volvo got going, we got reply of directors from Sweden, Belgium and Germany! :-)
Yesterday evening we were in the workshop when the crankshaft was pulled from the block, the plates holding the bearings were all installed wrong way around, the metal of bearing 3 and 4 had flown because of mean overheting, we found even cleaning paper and parts of sealant in the engine!
The costs of a rebuild are now higher then getting a new engine..
We are now waiting for the Turkish workshop to come up with a decicion....

Greetings from blasting hot Athens, Greece, Roland

(we are happy, it could as well be snowing...)

Sounds like a negligent workshop who just want to get the clients out the door as fast as possible. Volvo should kick them out of the volvo penta service network.
Stoerte Sounds quite hard.. I wish you good luck for the rest of your trip..

New Ice Age 2026 - Browerville to Longyearbyen

Our 2026 long-distance ice-boating challenge continues with a second race in Arctic waters, now from Browerville, where we arrived less than a month ago, continuing east, back to Svalbard’s Longyearbyen, leaving Canada’s Ellesmere Island to port and Denmark’s Greenland to starboard. Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia

Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!

West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.
