I could use some help from the SOL community.
At the end of Leg 1, someone posted a link in chat that was a well-done news video of the ships docked in Waterford and the festivities.
During the show, the two reporters took a sailing lesson. Here is the question:
What kind of boat was it they were sailing?? I can't find the vid and, even if I did, I recall there wasn't a distinctive symbol on the sail (at least not one I recognized).

I am searching for just such a boat to teach my kids how to sail... no small feat in land-locked central Pennsylvania.

Any help/comments are appreciated.

Hi Shampir - I've had a little snoop and found two sailing clubs near waterford.. one is Waterford HarbourSailing Club and the other is Kilmore Quay Boat Club - not sure which took the news journos sailing but if you can't find the info on the websites, just email em.. I am sure they would be delighted to hear from someone in the USA!!
THANKS RC!!

I'll see what I can find out!

I think those clips were from http://www.rte.ie? They might have been time-limited though.

Any clues? Boat ID is a favourite pastime of armchair sailors :-)
Hi Shamrock
The article is here

and the dinghy is a Topper Omega.

Loads of tallship footage here

Cheers.

Shamrock take a look at: http://www.ruach.net/Dinghy.html

It might be worth checking around to see if you're in an area with an active fleet of something appropriate. You can probably find a good used boat, and yours will hold value.

The topper looks like a nice family boat, if one of the importers will bring it in.
Only 5 days left to view the waterford tall ships half hour special

Lots of sailing boats in the marine store here, don't know if they're used in the program Slideshow of tall ships from a kayak too)

Danny, 76:
Many thanks, that's it exactly!
As feared, only made/found in the EU but will continue to search for like-design here.

Needless-to-say, SOL is the ONLY sailing within 100nm!

Thanks all! Appreciate the help and will let you know if I find something fun to put in the pool!

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
