Board » Sailonline Yacht Club » Unfixed Ranking

Hi there.

Im (relatively) new in SOL.
I, of course, am excited to see where Im ranked, but I have to wait a few months to se where I´m placed.

To give courage, and satisfy new members, I suggest that SOL introduce a new term - "unfixed ranking".

That means, new members will be ranked after 3 finished races, BUT with "***" after his/hers name, showing that this SYC-member has finished between 3 and 9 races.

I dont know if this will bring any tecnical complications or is impossible to administrate - if not I ask admins to consider my proposal.

What do you think ?

A very satisfyed SOLer:

Peter,
that kind of ranking would suite definitely newcomers, but what about those old ones who for one or another reason are not able to race many races but also are eager to go up the rankings. They definitely will not be happy.

But dear friend I assure it is very interesting to follow your own progression up the ranks and it will be reasonably fast if you rank in top 50.
When your general ranking is under 50,than you will have to start thinking of better rankings say among top 30,than top 15 and more close to the top it will be harder to progress or even to hold your general ranking.

Therefor Peter be patient and follow the route all of as has done.

Dear africa

Maybe I expressed myself bad!

My proposal was only to keep rookies at SOL, hold their motivation high. I know where I will be ranked, and thats no problem with me :-) (well, maybe a little bit ;-), but then again: I dont know if the ambition of www.sailonline.org is to become bigger and bigger, and beat WoWin the future.
Personally I find it OK with around 400 boats, starting each race.
How many starters was there in the past?

Welcome Hawk!
I had the same question when starting out (and have only been at it for 9 months). With only 5 races completed, you are already Top200! Patience is a virtue... I am certain you will climb the list rapidly as the high-numbered DNS drop off your list with each race completed.

Check some of the forum threads from last year and you will see an on-going discussion regarding "Class Division" as a way of maintaining interest for the broad-based SOL community. Very interesting.

Welcome aboard and I will patiently await the day in the near future when you pass ME in the rankings!!
