I'm still up, but Shamrock and hew are reporting that races are loading with no data. No way to tell what's happening, but last time our networks had domain lookup problems this was the temp fix:

I *think* that's the symptom we had with DNS loss. This is the fix that saved North America last time around - good luck!!!:

Hard to say how localised this is, but it looks like Ottawa at least is having trouble finding SOL again. The same fix as last time works - on windows machines:

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

there should be a file there called "hosts" with NO extension

right click it and open-with ... notepad

add these two lines:

62.181.230.173 race.sailport.se
62.181.230.171 www.sailonline.org

restart

It's a good idea to remove these two lines once they are no longer needed, which can be done by adding # to the beginning of each line:

# 62.181.230.173 race.sailport.se
# 62.181.230.171 www.sailonline.org
have no access to Canadian race for two hours already.Sailing blindly by Brainaid DC editor and navigation. From time to time checking on Google Earth not to run aground. There is however no turning point north of Belle isle on Google earth so if SOL race does not resume working at that time it will be hard to turn south.

From my observation:
Server troubles were at 22.6.2011from at least 0:50 to 2:00 UTC.
Web client did not download. Mobile client worked (without map) and Brainaid site was able to update navigation data and fire DC.

At 3:30 UTC (may be sooner) Web client downloaded correctly.
Hmmm, I sent a command at almost exactly 0050 that didnt have the desired effect, perhaps this is the reason?
But my toolkit has shown constant connection for the whole race so far - maybe that will also help in these situations, atleast you can see the race in a Google Map, albeit without WX, but you do get your own 'current wx' like in the client and brainaid's Nav page ;-) (out soon I promise)
Also the WX and BS strip charts in NavMon (and the log i keep) show no breaks in connection...

1 thing though, brainaid's site sends DCs to the sever when you press the 'Apply' button just like the actual client does, it doesnt send the command at the time you specify... So of course any DCs set there should have still worked.
Actually his site still working kinda backs up 76Ts DNS resolution 'theory'...
I help develop the client interface for the best online ocean racing sim there is... __/)/)_/)__

Lake Ontario 300 Challenge 2025

Lake Ontario Offshore Racing (LOOR) welcomes Sailonline sailors (SOLers for short) to a second virtual version of a race in their annual series, the LO300. As the name implies, the LO300 is a 300nm offshore race across the length and breadth of Lake Ontario, from and back to Port Credit YC. Once again, as is our wont on Lake Ontario, a fleet of Beneteau First 36.7s is being made available to virtual racers. There is an overall prize for the SOLer who best bosses Lake Ontario over the two races hosted by Sailonline, this 300 and the Susan Hood raced back in May; so, let the competition be fierce!

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
