Hi RC

Saw a remark in chat that some more day races where welcome.
Have come up with this idea for a Shetland race. It has some narrows in it but if needed can have lots more.
I reckon 1.5 - 2 days race.

Tempest-- Nice race! That would be a fun weekender. Will have to remember to lay in a stash of the good Italian coffee for the overnight!

Tempest - the end of January sees Shetland celebrating Up Helly Aa - a relatively modern fire-festival that is one of the biggest in N Europe now.

Last year we sailed a race created by AWoL that took us past Shetland so.. this year.. I would like your race (perhaps slightly extended and with the finish moved to Lerwick) to be our Up Helly Aa race.

Hope you agree!

Once I have your course set up I will post the link here for you to review as the sol boat.

We could perhaps call the new one the Shetland Treble (as it will look a bit like a treble stave in music!) and then keep your original 'Eight for another time?

Its up to you!

Hi RC

No problem . Just give me some more details and we can alter this race so it fits in and finishes in Lerwick.
In addition do you want more "narrows" or as little narrows as possible.

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination.
