Day 6. Sorted out the mechanism and rig working. Added the bulb. Later this evening I will epoxy the deck on.

The quick release mechanism works well so changing sails will be easier. I had to drop a filler into the mast tube to raise the mast 15mm to get the release thingy to work properly.

Went to the mall this morning and begged for large shopping bags. With these Ill make up 2 smaller sails.

Now I'm planning the paint job.

hey GILL,
this yr boat is very similar to my real boat

I have seen all other model boats, yrs and others and could see that you guys care little abt finishing works. There exists good soft car filers(no fibers inside)which dry in half an hour. They are very easy for sanding and you repeat all few times and yr boat is like from factory.
You could make the filer by yourself some microbalones powder, some epoxy(already mixed two components)and than mix.

Uncanny resemblance!

I don't remember Labjablesses being particularly fast but they look cool! That's not surface roughness you're seeing on many footies - it's engineered-surface microvortex drag reduction (riblets) ;-)
Day 7. I took it a bit easy today. I put a fillet onto the bow and shaped it to finish off the square front end. The deck got trimmed and I coated the hull in wood sealer. A few spots were filled in and I'm ready to sand down the hull...remove those deliberate dimples!

2 things caught me out! The bow fillet needed to be sanded down to fit within the 304mm box on the diagonal! Second, the rudder mechanism worked loose and I had visions of the boat losing the rudder at sea! So I epoxied the thing in, I won't have any of that!

one little tip that save me yesterday.... while I was towing (backward) the boat was filled with water coming in from the little tiny opening that link the rudder with the servo...
MAKE YOUR RECEIVER WATERPROOF!!!!
servos are cheap and battery not suffer for a little of water....
I was very happy to have foreseen this and after connected the radio with servos battery etc.... I pack it in a plastic bag (2 actually) keeping tight everything with a elastic! so no damage at all!!!
just disassembly to let the wood dry

pictures:
"looks like a mess" show the component connected and ready for final installation

"but is not" show the receiver (on the right) in a bag after is slided in position under the servo holder...

"towing back"
actually 150 meter away....(3xzoom)
the towing was done with the SAR boat (more than happy to have built it!!!!) with 30 meter line behind and rounding the target 3 times... not elegant but efficient, the incovenient was that the sailboat was dragged "sideward"... so water enter....

Gilles, the Razor has an inboard rudder. I put a brass sleeve in of about 30mm long. With some luck the post is waterproof and the top end above the waterline always. Thanks for the Bag Tip, this will be done always.

For me, on Florida lake, if a mishap occurs, it means a swim!
a swimm ahah!
...
...

I have water temp of 3°C
brrrrr

:-(..I would like too....:-(
Day 8. Did the paint job today. Tried filling in the small holes that showed themselves.

Sea Trials! I wet the hull tomorrow. With some luck the hull is waterproof and the sailing lessons begin!
