Long winter...
no IRL sail...
no race on SOL...
Let buid some radio controlled racer!

Dedicated to Rod, that ask the picture(s), sorry to bother who do not care.

I weighted the bare hull prototype that I have done to check if depron sheet 6mm and hotglue will do it, and...
yes! wheigt is 26 grams!!
the models are footy class, weighting 630 g, including sails not shown here
If anyone want more information: http://footy.rcsailing.net/
bye all

Gilles: Looks great! I haven't used depron as a building material, but you certainly have proved that 25 gm hulls are realistic. One suggestion, make sure that you can adjust mast position easily. I make mine so they can be taken apart easily too, so that I can repair mistakes and accidents. I have been using something called "Zap-a-Dap-a-Goo II" to glue on hatches etc., as it is waterproof, almost permanent, and easily peels off. I'll take some pics of my Footys and upload here so you can see some of what I've been doing.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Those are HUGE pictures (in terms of byte size) Unfortunately I just went over net quota, so i will take a look tomorrow. I have done RC sailing a few times... was great fun, except the old guys where i did it got upset cos i always beat them to the first mark! lol. Although I did tend to screw it all up downwind (coming back toward us) by reversing all my steering directions... Damn that is confusing at first! ;-)

Oh no... Gilles building Footies too :-)

My brother is moving close to the RC pond in Vancouver and has got me going again. We're (still) thinking RG65, but might have to break down and build a Footy as well.
Hello Gilles and Rod!!!

Now you've started something! I downloaded the plans for the Razor 3 and will be starting my own little project!

Maybe we should start up a SOL Class of Footy Fundis! Lets put up a link here on Sailonline for Footy fans. Ill start off with listing here what my desk looks like at home! Picture 1 of "Jawz Too" - Conception!!!.
Any way, please, if your emails are not listed on the user list please send me a mail to gh.snoek@gmail.com. I more than likely will be requiring some assistance as the build continues and would like to be able to ask for help. This will be my first model yacht.

Regards
George

Here is my current "best". The "Glass Petrel" sails quite well and does not bury her bow on downwind runs, unless greatly over-powered. The second pic is my collection. Two are other's designs, but mine include a 3 mast ship, a trimaran, a very heavy "inverted shark-fin design, a 'batteries-in-the-keel' and 3 narrow hull experiments.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.

very nice! the 3rd from the right is a "masked" multihull?
A trimaran in which the batteries were in the bottom of the central 'hull' so as to save on the weight of the keel. The overall concept was to keep the weight down and the acceleration up. I never got around to completing these---I gave away my "round-to-it", so without one, I always intended to complete them, when I got a "------"!

Rod. Can a single sail Razor be modified to main and jib without having to move position of the mast?

Picture - Day 2 - Gathering bits and pieces from hobby shop, out of garage and spare room ready to start build.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!

It’s one of the longer ones 6400nm, more than half way around the world (and the Antarctica). It starts the 2026 OCQ2, and will be sailed in our Steinlager 2, contrary to prior notice.
