Hi RC please find attached a suggested course for an upcoming weekend race. It can be run at any stage that you have a space. Either shortly as we are still getting strong southerlies at this time of year or later on in spring time (September October) Its based on a real course but we finish in the Marlborough Sounds and drink rum. Either cross the finish line and raft up or sail straight home and Send It after a few rums or during a few rums :))

FAB!!! Thank you undercover - weekend races are always needed... especially now as many of those who work full-time have even less time available for leisure and SOLing!!

:-)
undercover - have just set this one upin the system and am pencilling it in for the weekend of 1 October.

Is that OK with you? also, in the description you mention the boat-type "Class 40" - is that the same as First40.7?

Forgive my ignorance but, as you know, I am a landlubber IRL!!

The full list of boat-types currently available in SOL is in a sticky post at the top of this Race Proposals Forum.

:-)
Hi RC
The 1st of October sounds fine. Could we start the race Saturday night NZ time as most Kiwi's will be real sailing by then :)
Class 40 is on the SOL list quite a new boat. Single or double handed ocean racer.

Yes of course we can make it NZ evening time... 0800utc ?? 0900utc?? which would you prefer.

Re the choice of boat - I set up the First40.7 so that's good!!

:-)
Hi RC
Right log in this time :)
0700 1/10/10 sounds great.
Please can we have the Class 40 not the First 40.7. I posted the 2 boat sites for your information. As you can see very different boats.
You are doing a great job well done and thank you very much.
I hope the dog is still getting enough walks with all this SOL work :)

Cheers Undercover
Sorry RC just checked the calender :(

2/10/10 0700 UTC

No more requests I will let you deal with the rest of the races.

A picture from last years Kapiti Chetwodes race. Going towards Cape Jackson.
The boys cruising at 15 knots :)

undercover - OK .. Class 40 is set as is 0700 utc on 2 October so marshall your Kiwi racers!!!

Thanks for the "great work" compliement - its much appreciated!!

I have had a steep learning curve and my name is spread a bit too much over the site at the moment but hopefully, as everyone gets used to chipping in and proposing races and commenting on the calendar in the Forum and generally contributing, I won't seem so ever-present!!

:-D

P.S. neat pic.. which one are you?

Arms folded cap on. 0800 in the morning after starting the night before 18.30.
I was in charge for a change and letting the others drive. Watching the puffs and waiting to take over. We got maxed out in 30 knots of wind about 15 minutes later trying to get inside a lighthouse......between Cape Jackson and the light offshore it got very exciting:)

look at this

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
