In addition to zero's comments:

brainaid's static polar list is now pretty incomplete as he's moved to the "toolbox" that presents the data much more nicely but is only accessible "live".

Multi-boat-type races are possible, but seem to lead to more friction that usual... SOL is very realistic in this respect! I'd love to see some of the classic mixed-fleet races run. 86 other boats signed up for the Sydney-Hobart even though everyone knew that Wild Oats was going to win... ;-)

There's no official capacity to handicap races, but we can/have posted unofficial results before. For last year's IMSYC I ran ORC-style handicapping. For a shorter race we could post "routed" corrections based on the actual weather.

Thanks 76T,
I am very used to the "mixed fleet" concept having spent most of my younger racing life on the Chesapeake and there would be quite the variety. I don't know enough about the polars to be able to tell if you could predict advantage of one choice over another for a particular race. At this point, it seems prudent to just stick with a "typical" single choice for a given race.

That said, I have really gotten into the race design stuff and already have 5 in the list (not finished yet but definite concepts). So here is another question.

Can SOL replicate anything I can see on Google Earth? I am specifically thinking of a canal. I scrolled over to the area I am interested in within an active SOL race but did not see the water feature. Is more detail available for the "race graphic" once the SOL Gods look at the proposal? I don't want to waste their time if that is not the case.

Thanks again for the tips. This is definitely brightening a cold, rather dismal winter for me!
Where can I see the diagram for the Tall ships class C ?
The best way to see which water features are displayed/displayable on SOL is to move around the globe and use the Max Zoom function from within an already-open race.

There are limits as to what can be displayed but the detail of the Great Lakes area is pretty decent - not sure about canals though! We can set up a set "view" probably as we will be running the Chi-Mac this year (hopefully maybe even as buddies with the Chicago YC) so it can be set up ahead of time.

As for Tall Ship polars, here is one image of all five together :-)

Hope this helps.
