One of the things done in radio-sailing is the appointment of a "race director" for each race. The RD is responsible for the layout of the course, adjudicating any disputes, enforcing the rules and keeping the record of the finishers. The RD does not race---but if the race is part of a series, the RD receives the average score for that race. Members take it in turn, or volunteer, to be RD.
This would relieve RainbowChaser of that load, as she is already acting as RD for the main races.
The RD could plan the practice races, and just email the course to RainbowC (if she did not wish to give out the programming controls needed to actually layout the buoys)
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Rod - Since you were last regularly sailing on SOL there have been some changes and in fact GREATSKUA and sassy63 now do the majority of practice race design/hosting. I just create the first one, usually because I have just opened the race and registered the Practice Marks :-)

As for having someone act as Race Director and not race? I think we are a bit away from needing to do that as we have an excellent overview of all that is happening on-screen. Unlike real racing (radio controlled or otherwise) we see tracks, we can review what has happened etc. I don't actually see any merit in having someone just sitting and watching the screen all evening while others race, but that is not to say it may not happen in future!

Thank you, as always, for your input.

TuziTekwini TIMED Race 2026

Sailonline is delighted to have been invited again to partner with the King Shaka Yacht Club (KSYC) of South Africa to bring a virtual version of the Tuzi Tekwini Ocean Raceto our online community.

Achievable in a single day and seen by some as an easy mile-builder, the course is more tactical than some think and should not be underestimated. This iconic race promises to be an unforgettable experience for yachting enthusiasts.
Our online version of the race will be a TIMEDrace so you may RE-REGISTER HEREto try again after finishing a run. You will have two weeks to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.
