As always, all SOLers are very welcome to join in the informal and mostly social matchraces that will be held during the run-up to the SOL race-start.

Tonight I propose a positioning cruise/race to a location that, for forecast winds, should be a better location as a matchrace start-point over the next day or so.

claudio - OF COURSE you can play!! EVERYONE is invited to join in.. these matchraces are run by SOLers for SOLers and everyone is most welcome.

Practice matchracing is a grand way to test out a boat polar, learn how SOL works (if you are new) and get to know a few of the other SOLers a little better than before :-)

You see me shouting about the races 'cos I am just bossy like that hehehe

Due to public demand (well, matchracers enthusiasm) africa's race-course is going to be run again from last night's finish point.

FROM: 65.009 / -23.126

JOKE STANDINGS IN MATCHRACE: #1 africa(god in waiting), #2 Gilles(true god of race), #3 Perenkist(true gent govenor),smo,(jump-champ but still only joint third)#5 news(its a draw you came 5th, get over it), #6 robert1( excellent getting better all the time), #7 Pano( too many boinks), #8 glynnwi,(well done considering started race 1.3 miles behind others) # 9RC(true goddess. would have been 5th if Newsrooms, its an anagram.
hadn't steered boat off course) , #10 sassy (sas you caused all this trouble)& stoertebacker ( an innocent bystander) (still running).its only practice,,,,

Melville Island is the largest of the Tivi group opposite the port of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Tropically forested and thinly populated, not a lot goes on there, but let’s race around it anyway, lar- or starboard round, it’s a little more than 120nm, so, no matter where you are navigating from on the planet, you will be hard-pressed to complete the course aboard your J-80 in daylight hours!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Guam to Ouvéa


The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South. Starting at Rosebery Channel in Uganda sail the AC72v2 on a 196nm course around Bugala Island on the way to the finish line in Tanzania’s Speke Gulf. Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
