Ciao all my friends ;)
the disrupted wx updates schedule during the Cape2 race has been subject of many discussions in chat . Surely we are all in agreement that wx updates are one of the most important playrules of this game , as well as to the fact that no one of us can stare at the screen H24 to make sure that a new update has popped up ( or not popped up ) vastly outside the sched times ......

Kalle ....Jakob ...and all ....here is my suggestion :

instruct the server to accept wx updates that arrive within -15 and +30 minutes from schedule .....If too late , i.e. rejected , we continue with existing wx till next update .....at least we know that after a certain time we cannot expect surprises ;) ....

I would be happy to see comments , and hopefully concurrence by as many other solers as possible ;)

that's all with my contribution on the subject .....

ciao ciao all

Piero
Yeah, something needs to be done. VR uses just 2 wind updates which I do not like at all as the times favor the central Europeans significantly at the expense of those who live in the Americas and other places. The 4 updates per day here seem to be the best compromise possible for being fair to all and still leaving time for people to do things like sleep and go to work. I know we should not let sleep or work interfere with our virtual sailing, but sometimes we must. But this said, I would rather see the numerous surprises we have experience lately go away. Even if it means less than 4 updates per day.

Excellent, and thanks for any efforts to address this issue.

Just out of curiosity, is it known why there have been unscheduled and extra updates? I am familiar with UGRIB and have never found it to implement any unscheduled updates, not that this proves it never has. I guess I don't even understand how the weather service used could even do it.

Red Eye - Melville Island PYOC 2026

Melville Island is the largest of the Tivi group opposite the port of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Tropically forested and thinly populated, not a lot goes on there, but let’s race around it anyway, lar- or starboard round, it’s a little more than 120nm, so, no matter where you are navigating from on the planet, you will be hard-pressed to complete the course aboard your J-80 in daylight hours!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Guam to Ouvéa

The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South. It’s 2400nm, and there’s more than a few other islands in the way, so mind where you go in your Ocean 50s. Race #1981

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
