Board » Flag Officers » Races » Boat choice poll for Boston-Newport race.

Page: 1 2 Next

Post annotated by Incognito :
This thread was moved from the category General Discussion.
A timed race from Boston to Newport is being considered for the slot following Hobart-Sydney. This poll is to decide what boat to race, and whether to offer the option of more than one boat type. Sailors can change boats when they start a new run. Estimated duration of a run is 6-12hours and the race will be open for one week.

Please respond with your choice of the 4 options below:

60' Trimaran
VO70
Orange
All three

The poll will CLOSE with the starting gun for the Hobart-Sydney race.

The checkbox for each option is the one "above" it. The fifth choice (show results) lets you trade your vote for a peek at the outcome.

Poll: Which boat for Boston-Newport

You need to be logged in to vote.
My vote wasn't counted. Easy to control because nobody's vote was counted :)
Btw, I want all three.
The poll layout is deceptive. The bottom checkbox is to trade your vote for a peek at results...

SOLer's word is good enough for me on this sort of thing. If anyone gets tripped up just post here.
not sure if my vote was counted.....dont think it was.....I vote for all 3

Hi,
I'm completly agree with Joy.
good luck
Yours
Hi - for avoidance of doubt...I VOTE for all three boats!! :-)
If we go for the 3 boats, we have also to have a ranking of the 3 different classes. Otherwise, it isn't fair. The polars of the 3 boats are not matching with eachother, so the outcome will also be not comparable... Not everybody has the time to sail with the 3 boats in the best conditions in the one week we get.

I only agree for the 3 boats if we have separate rankings for each boat. Not everybody has the time to race with all 3 boats in ideal weather during the week the race is open!
If not, we have the same discussion as we have already for months: sailing with the help of extra software, compared with normal brain use... The first part will be able to do the race with the 3 boats with extra help, and the others will have no change at all.

Couldn't agree more Cajun Queen.
I'll be sitting this one out.

My worry is that such races (timed races) are becoming too lengthy and too frequent. The odd one here and there is fine, but if that is at the expense of conventional races then I can see my enthusiasm for SOL taking a dive.

Call me an old fuddy duddy, even "obnoxious" as one who shall remain nameless did on my expressing these sentiments, if you like.
Nevertheless I think the time to speak up has come, and I hope others like-minded will do the same and halt what I, rightly or wrongly, perceive to be an irritating trend.

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
