I don't much like timed race either, but others do, and the RC is trying to respond to the userbase. This is only the second timed race we've had recently, it's a 6-12 hour race, and the intention was to have it open for only 6-7 days, during which time a longer Ocean race will also be taking place, with a sprint on the weekend.

I think I must have underestimated people's attachment to the rankings when I suggested three boats. The idea wasn't to pad the stats for the routers - it was to let people have fun in the fast boats over a short course during the holidays.

As for the race, and "fairness", it would have become quite clear in the first dozen hours of the race window that one boat is favoured over the others. If you want to win, pick that one and run the race like normal. If you want to take one of the other two and have fun passing people upwind or blowing by them on reaches that's fine too. Lots of boats would be happy to be the fastest of the slower fleet, even if they aren't ranked in the very top.

We can't address the issues of routing/non-routing self declaration, "Divisions" or some of the other suggested ideas without trying new things.

I've been looking for a link to the polars of the three boats, but can't seem to find one anywhere. Someone said it's under "Helpful Hints" but I can't find that one either!
