Board » Technical Support » Again SOL has a very big problem with finishing times.

SOL you seem to have a finish position problem still. I know you don't want to fix it but I am tired of it. My boat finishes at the line and turns head to wind. OK. Boats that finish up to 2 minutes behind me by turning head to wind finish 10 seconds ahead. That is BULL SHI%. I am tired of beating boats to the finish line only to have them beat me. Can't you guys figure out how to get these boats to finish correctly. Don't give that junk about the clock and decimal seconds. That is not where the problem is. Boats that turn head to wind at the finish line are finished. Pure and simple. Boats that turn head to wind 2 minutes later CANNOT beat you by 10 seconds...........
Hi Acme. I am afraid I still have no substantial indication of such a bug. What can happen though is that you might have had a week connection and the visual updates of the other boats on your computer was lagging a little. You say 2 minutes... We do not have such long update times on the servers so it really sounds like a connection problem. Further, the important thing here is that the server is doing ok even if your visual updating lags, don´t you agree?

Ahhh, OK that explains why when you zoom right in on your boat it sometimes looks like it is ahead of boats that are listed as being ahead of it.

It allways looks that your own boat is a little bit ahead because your own boats position updates more often than the other boats.

Hi,ACME RACING,
I have been several times in same condition(not 2 min. however, and concluded that I have to follow the boats arriving with me at about the same time.It usually happens that those boats were continually in front of you and than at arrival somehow they are delayed and you arrive first while in fact those boats already arrived if you look from another computer.
Therefor Jakob explained it well and you do not have to get so upset.

The Vineyard Race 2025

For the first time since first hosting a virtual Vineyard in cooperation with Long Island's Stamford Yacht Club back in 2010, due to an operational calendaring error, Sailonline has missed the start of the real life race, the USA’s Labor Day weekend this year unusually falling across the turn of August. Silly SOL! So, a week late please join us anyway for a virtual rerun of Stamford’s iconic annual overnighter from their club line out the sound to Buzzard's Bay Light near Martha's Vineyard Island and back again, leaving Block Island to starboard. This year, Sailonline is making its magic MC 38 available to competitors, a race boat with a quirky polar that will require you to stay wide awake as you speed around the c 250 nm course, in rockstar style!
