I cannot fix this unless you send me a log of what qtVlm receives (nmea, show raw data, copy/paste in a text file after let's say 10mn).

On a side note I dont really see the point of this information for a virtual game, apart from being pleasant to contemplate ;)

Really like the new Pathways functionality. A few enhancements requests.
1. When loading a route and marks via a gpx file, can the mark sequence number be incremented by a factor of 10 or 100. Right now, the marks come in with seq nos of 1,2,3 etc. Using 10, 20, 30 or 100, 200, 300 ,etc would make it far simpler to insert additional marks into the route.
2. When creating a routing, and the route that was converted to Pathway has a Fixed Date checked, carry that value across into the routing start time.
3. Same with the routing start value - if from boat or from first mark is checked, carry that value across.
4. Enable "New mark" in Routes right click menu for Pathways in the same way it works for Routes. Will save having to create a mark, set the sequence number, change the name and add to the route.

FYI a beta version is available at La Taverne which includes the requested changes and some other stuff mostly irrelevant to SOL (concerning currents and such). Would be great if you could validate it before final release.

I would bet that you have let's say wind data and something else, let's say currents, and that your wind's data maximum date is less than "now". And since qtVlm can still display something (currents) but there is no more wind data as of now...
Note that in 5.4.9, when NMEA reception is activated, qtVlm automatically set the grib's date to "now" every minute or so (if it has not been set in the future by the user).

What happened?

Some days ago I was making some routing using two different but geographically complementing Grib files (with a small overlap in Latitude, hence the superimposed numbers in the chart plotter pics).

In Slot 1 I’ve put the Grib file that I attached in the previous com.
In Slot 2 I’ve uploaded the second Grib file that I didn’t close for making the following routings.

The mystery is solved and it’s not a qT bug - good!

2017-03-22 10:59:22 - Grib Version 2 With PRMSL grib Causes Qt to Crash
I've attached two files, a Version 1 which contains only UGRD and VGRD and a Version 2 which has PRMSL added. V1 works fine all the time. V2 works fine if there are no routes. As soon as a route is created, it starts to crash. Routing works fine, but when the routing is turned into a route, it crashes immediately.

Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.

This year, we race the classic Frers 33, a proven cruiser-racer born from the golden era of offshore racing and still a sturdy performer both on the virtual and real water. Red Eye - Hobart Convict Run 2026

Back in 2010, one of our SOLers of the first hour, AUS_Scott76, came up with this ‘Convict Run’ out from Hobart, past Cape Raoul and the penal colony of Port Arthur, round Tasman Island, up and back down the east coast of Tasmania, to finish with a tight technical run – so Scott called it – up the picturesque D'entrecasteaux Channel, home to Hobart once again. It’s 250nm, ideal for a bit of ‘Red Eye’ in comfortable Finngulf 43’s, and if the original idea was to pick up some convicts on the way for a bit of R&R and sea air, you may always drop’m back before returning to Hobart!

New Ice Age 2026 - Longyearbyen to Browerville


Although we have by no means exhausted the possibilities of ice boating on lakes at high latitudes or high altitudes, it was noticeable that as our 2025 Series progressed, there were calls from time to time for longer-distance challenges, and so in response to these calls we will pretend that global warming has reversed and as a result the coastal waters of Antarctica and Russia and Canada have fully (and smoothly!) frozen over offering us the possibility of a 4-race New Ice Age series in our trusted no-PL DN machines. Our first leg takes us 2600nm from Svalbard’s Longyearbyen east to North Alaska’s Browerville. You’ll be a few days on the ice, so dress warmly and take some provisions; go!
