AHOY THERE YE DAFT KILLICK-BRAINED COCKROACHES!!!

On 15 September at 1600utc Sailonline will start its annual race to collect barrels of rum from Carib distilleries and deliver them, if not drunk, to Cancun, Mexico. The race is run close in time to International Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept 19).

All SYC Members are hereby invited to adopt a pirate name for this race only.

If you are a paid-up SYC Member you may request a change your usual Sailonline boatname just in this one race to one of your piratical preference! Names are agreed on a first-come, first-served basis BUT all must be suitable and "fit to print", Sailonline is a family-friendly site so we reserve the right to disallow names we consider inappropriate.

All requests for such changes will only be actioned if posted in this thread - hollering in chat is fun, but only by posting here can you guarantee your pirate name!

PLEASE DO CHECK THE LIST BELOW before submitting a request so that you don't ask for a name already taken by someone else before you!

Please note that the change of boatname for this one race will not affect either your usual login credentials (username and password) or your SYC rankings.

Once the race opens, as always, I will be endeavouring to change boatnames as efficiently as possible!

NOTE: you may join SYC and request a change of name for the race at any time up to and during the Carib Rum Run until race close!

    ANDROID RECEPTION.
Towards the end of this race (sailing up the fiord), my'hot pink'LAND geographical indicator ceased to appear. (It was still present on the small islands). As with my reception, generally it appears marginally off sinc to the topography, however I appeared to be clearly to be sailing 'free"of land, when in fact I continually ran aground (witnessed by M.M.) Is this problem at Sol's end or mine?
P.s. (rumours of North Korean sub in the area)

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
