taken by an Italian government site of weather forecast:

    PROBLEMA MODELLI: Avviso agli utenti.

"NCEP Central Operations systems -- the NCEP FTP Server (“ftpprd”) , NOMADS and MAG systems, and the recently-implemented MADIS and MRMS applications, are being affected by an Internet capacity issue at the NOAA Network Operations Center. The manifestation of this issue is slow data retrieval from these services. The root cause of the issue is that these dissemination systems utilize the NOAA Internet link and that link has reached saturation, especially at those times of the day when the major models are being disseminated. The slowness has been exacerbated by the recent GFS model upgrade, which gave users access to the new high-resolution dataset and also some of the existing output files increased in size dramatically with the model resolution increase.

The plan to address this Internet capacity issue is for the NOAA NOC to increase the capacity of the NOAA Internet link. This activity is currently in the procurement phase, with an FY15Q3 (April – June) implementation goal. NCEP is working closely with the NOAA NOC to track the progress of this upgrade. In the interim, NCEP is investigating some stop-gap measures that could provide some very limited relief.

We apologize for the impact this has had on our customers. We recognize that the ability to retrieve our products in a timely fashion is very important to our users and I assure you we are working to address the situation.

    Becky Alwyn Cosgrove
Chief, NCEP Central Operations, Production Management Branch"

  • Re: 2014 RACE CALENDAR Q 2
Board » Flag Officers » Race Calendar
    Hello guys,
great job for the new calendar.
Q1* provides an excellent overview of the quarter, while Q2* is full of useful details.
I think it would be even more useful to insert in Q2*, for each race, also the date close to the time.
    Is it possible?
    thanks
    Mat

    * only today I realized I have used Q1 and Q2 instead of P1 and P2, I apologize!

Refeno Rally 2024

Although since 1986 this 300nm course from Recife, Brazil, to Fernando Noronha Island has been run many times IRL, we have only used this route twice in SOL. This time it will be the route of the last race in the ARCH 2024 classification.
Although the winner of the general classification can already be determined, the fight for the next places on the podium should be fierce. There are several contenders and Dofour34 have them at their disposal. Since we are starting in Vida_Maldita's home waters, he will give us a 30-minute handicap. Or maybe we should give it to him? 😊

The Beagle in the Azores 2024

And west the Beagle went one final time to round the Cape of Good Hope on May 31 1836. Ashore, Darwin met up with the Astronomer Royal, Herschel, who just happened to be in South Africa at the same time mapping the southern skies. After sounding out his many ideas on evolution and extinction with Herschel, the Beagle now sailed north, stopping briefly in St Helena, Ascension and Brazil, and the Cape Verdes again, to reach the Azores on September 19, 1836. Fitzroy and Darwin at this stage were in a hurry to get back to Britain, but online in 2024 we will stay a little longer to explore this final remote archipelago in our virtual Tall Ship Class B Beagle, 630nm round and about the islands, minding as always in these waters not to bump into any large cetaceans!
