I suggest that a photograph and specifications of the boat being used in any given race be displayed on the page, below the polar diagram, so that sailors like myself, who are unfamiliar with the many new designs of yachts, may be more aware of what we are sailing. This space does not seem to be used for any other purposes.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Hi Rod - that is a brilliant idea!!

Up to now, I have been creating polar images and saving them so that we can see the polar diagram but it never occurred to me to spend time searching the internet for an image of the boat itself and adding it to that image/link. You are right... there is space on each polar image "screen".

Going forward I will (try to) find a picture of the relevant yacht via Google/internet search and then create new polar+image files - if I do it on a race by race basis then it will just be a continuing project!!

I can't promise to do it with all races immediately as I am on vacation shortly and have a lot to do to get all scheduled races set up etc as well as personal stuff but... will do my best!

Have a look again at the Polar link for the Two Oceans Doublecross :-D

Thank you!

Skimmer Dragonfly - India to East Africa 2026

In the autumn, when the rains stop and the tourists thicken in Goa and along the north western coast of India, globe skimming dragonfly climb to the skies (up to 1500m) to catch the high-altitude ITCZ winds and glide south west to East Africa. We’ll stay at sea level, where alas the winds will be less predictable, and race them there, the whole 2400nm of the way, in Carkeek 40s.

Mad Max by Balloon 2026 - Across the Outback

Mad Max Rockatansky doesn’t get to go in a balloon in any of the Legends of the Wasteland, and the Wasteland is not necessarily the Outback of Australia, but Mel Gibson and film director George Miller indubitably are… of Australia, and ballooning as reconnaissance is a main feature of the Mad Max spin-off video game, so here goes: 1500nm in a balloon from somewhere on the edge of the Outback, Goondiwindi, to cross a finish line at Fitzroy Crossing, somewhere on the edge of the Outback!
