Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals » Bornholm Race 2012

A lot of SOLers have been asking that we acknowledge one of N Germany's classic summer races - part of the July Warnemunde Woche festival and regatta - and this is the race around the island of Bornholm.

Thanks to K3 we have the race set up and now ready for preview. It is a simple race but if you see any snags with the setup please do say so!

To preview, log in as the sol boat with these credentials:

Username: sol
Password: sol

and then click here

The Start (start time (1st group) July 9th 11:05 UTC) can be seen at webcam

Several boats are equipped with tracking units. I'll post the adresses as soon as I get them.

ciao
Bernd (K3)

K3 - excellent, thank you. Do you anticipate enticing any new SOLers to join in this one?
Let's hope for some new germans.

By the way: Brainaid Ocean Racing has it's routers for the real boats in steam already.

Ciao
Bernd (K3)
Ciao K3 - not sure what you mean by "in steam"?? Please would you provide a url for what you have found? Thanks!
Confusion at Warnemünde!

First the officials said Bornholm has to be rounded clockwise (!) and now the official saiiling instructions are published and the rounding is again not mandatory (see links, point 7.1, 7.5) as all the years before.

Sailing instructions:
blaetterkatalog_35
blaetterkatalog_37

Eddie does the routing for one or more real boats. The results are not public.

The tracking of some boats will be available at:

ciao

K3 - thank you for the latest info.

Let the real race be confused! SOL shall stay with her anti-clockwise course :-D

New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Tenerife to Fernando de Noronha

The sixth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back up the Atlantic to Tenerife, from whence we will depart on a classic transatlantic passage to Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. It’s 2150nm as the albatross flies, but you will undoubtedly have to take some and sometimes sudden detours to get your Volvo 70v4 through the doldrums stretching across your path from the Amazon to the Niger.
