Board » Technical Support » Just a couple of questions..

Sorry if these seem obvious to most people but I haven't been able to work it out

1) Can I save a boat list within a race so that if I leave that race or log out of my computer, and later come back to it my boat list is still available to me?

2) Brainaids toolbox, I've heard a lot about it, I've taken a look at it, where can I go to read exactly what it can do to help me and how I use it?

3) How do I search the forum for old threads/posts that might help me answer the above questions and more?

Thanks in advance for your help

Rich

Hi Impala... the answers are probably in the Forum somewhere but tough to find. I'll give it a shot:

1) Can I save a boat list within a race so that if I leave that race or log out of my computer, and later come back to it my boat list is still available to me?
A) Nope, not yet. That is apparently being worked on for an upcoming upgrade. We had a TON of new and fabulous stuff hit recently from the Engineroom and the ability to save the custom lists for a whole race and not just per login is on the radar for future.

2) Brainaids toolbox, I've heard a lot about it, I've taken a look at it, where can I go to read exactly what it can do to help me and how I use it?
A) No real instruction manual that I know of but here are a few hints. The toolbox becomes more useful as you get more experience in SOL. I use the DC editor for virtually every race as it allows much more precision. I have found that setting one DC in the SOL client and then opening the DC editor helps me insure I don't screw up the date format. After you click the DC Editor button, click on revert and it will load whatever you had in the SOL DC box. I then just copy/paste that line a few times below and adjust the time/CC/TWA as needed (I usually hit a rock anyway but I'm VERY PRECISE about it!!). Caution about going over the OOOOhrs as you will need to change the day in the date format... been there, done that!.
The Polar is good for some of the other available tools like Polar Explorer (check out http://soltools.wordpress.com/tools/polar-explorer to REALLY get an idea of the massive amount of helpful items are available.
Finally, the GRIB file is useful for weather prediction and strategy... and I will defer to other experts in that area.

3A) Sorry, I can NEVER remember the URL to type to search the forum but I'm sure someone will post it.

Hope this helps. If you weren't addicted to SOL before, these toys ought to do it!!

Also from brainaid's toolbox, you can download grib files matching sol's grid dimensions. These gribs can then be used in grib viewers like zyGrib or in free weather routers such as Bluewater Racing.

Polars are available for download in several formats. Note that brainaid's polars for Bluewater Racing are not according to Bluewater Racings' specifications.

A NMEA proxy is also available thru brainaid's toolbox. This proxy can be used to feed an application like NavMonPC or feed GPS data into Bluewater Racing. Details on how to get NavMonPC configured and working are here found on this very forum.

Find information and tools you may think useful on my blog as well.
