AHOY SOLers!! There will be a practice race tonight, Saturday 23 July, with start times from 1800utc. Starting times will be posted presently by 76T.

Make sure you are S of the M1/M5 line by 1800utc then!! :-)
As promised:

Pursuit Starts
AL 18:20:33
AS 18:00:00
B 18:03:33
C 18:40:12
D 18:41:51

In pursuit racing, boats start staggered based on their handicaps. The slowest boats get a head start and the fast ones attempt to chse them down. If all goes correctly the fleet converges at the finish and the final ranking is the order that they cross the line.

Course is a windward-leeward-windward with gates at the top and bottom of the course. Start between Mark_1 and Mark_5, round through the windward gate of Mark_2 and Mark_3, back down through the leeward gate and finish between Marks 2 and 3.

If the fleet elects to use a "standard" start, TCF are as follows:

TCF
AL 0.740
AS 0.591
B 0.612
C 0.973
D 1.000

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
