Do check out the Useful Links in the first post.. there is now a link to the Current Entry List (from Sailonline) AND a pic showing which boats are Class A Large and which Class A Small :-)
Where can we find reference to SOL on Sail Training International (STI's) web page ?
Jawik - I have emailed the IRL race organisers to say they may publish the link at their "earliest convenience"!!

:-D
I found this, but it disappears when I scroll on from events.

Edited to remove link to a private url on the SailTraining International website.

Ok. I accept this and are awaiting for a permanent information link from STI to SOL :-)
Found a link to Port of Waterford Arrivals

A well-sailed square rigger can be more manoeuverable than a fore-aft rigged vessel. The sails on the different masts can be braced around independently, so you
have side-to-side thrust available even with no steerage way. Fore pushing bow to port, mizzen pushing stern to stb, rudder ready to back stern to stb etc... The closest a modern rig can get is backing the jib, but in most boats it's pretty much a momentum affair.

Not super snappy though! Sails could be hauled up, or struck and reset, rigging re-led...
Yeah ok I had considered that - we use sails in manouvers all the time, especially mark roundings to minimise rudder usage ;-)
I just thought, 60-60 is a long way to go at <6kn BS! Although I guess the momentum of these things would gigantic aswell, but surely they also have a rig type that provides the most drag ?

Still what you describe is not a tack, if the fore sails are braced to provide side thrust then the boat is not passing head to wind ??
Oops - browser still logged me in as sol from yesterday!! Too many accounts used for testing purposes ;-)

That was me, obviously, last post...
I help develop the client interface for the best online ocean racing sim there is... __/)/)_/)__

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!

Tasmania to Kamchatka 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. Tasmania to Kamchatka, part of our Ocean Championship and also the third leg of the ROW (Round the Old World) series. Be aware of the obstacles on the way, likely to split the fleet. It's like X:mas to X:mas, crossing the same waters, navigating the same archipelagos. This second race of OCQ2 2026 will be sailed in our revised 'version 2' Imoca 60 Foil. Race #2031
