Board » General Discussion » Modified Corinthian Mode - 'Line of Sight' Fleet only

Here is a small Proxy Server that filters the fleet based on distance from your own boat.

More detailed instructions are in the zip file.

Basically you need to set your browser to use a proxy server: 127.0.0.1:8000 (your machine on port 8000).

NOTE: When using the proxy, the initial loading of a race may take slightly longer than usual, but once loaded performance is the same as when not using the proxy.

Download it here, and enjoy!
Platform neutral -requires java 1.5+, but only tested on Windows.

NOTE: The proxy defaults to showing only those boats within 10Nm, however 3Nm is a more realistic 'line of sight' value. This corresponds to approximately the distance to the horizon from a height of 2m.

That's some nice work! Looks perfect- I'll give it a go once I'm home.
Updated the zip file with better documentation, including pictures of setting up a proxy server for internet connections to use, and showing the proxy server running with IE.

Hi Agage,

i've tried your Corinthian proxy, but got stuck on some problems...

first and important: I can't control my boat through the proxy. Any commands seem to vanish on their way to my boat.

second (and less important): if i have two tabs with different races, it mixes up some information. On Imoca Leg 5 i'm so far behind that a 20 nm radius matches nobody around my boat and so there are no boats visible there, but in NZL there are boats in vincinity, but they don't show up either.

Do you have any hints?

Well I hadnt written it to support 2 or more races at once... It just grabs your location every time the SOL client requests it, and then filters requests for the fleet, so probaly what is happenening is somehow your NZ loction is being overwritten with your IMOCA location. I will have a think about modifying it to support multiple races...

I hadnt noticed anything about commands not getting through, I will look into that one, as it makes the whole thing useless - i cant think why off the top of my head as only requests for boat and race files are monitored, all other urls work fine - ie you can browse wikipedia or someother site while using it fine...

Thanks for letting me know.. ;-)

OK I sorted the problem with commands. Seems that the POST sent by the SOL Client specified "Content-length" instead of "Content-Length" in the headers, so the proxy (looking for the latter) assigned a content length of zero to the POST requests, which meant the actual POST data was not being sent to the server!

I also reworked it to support as many races as you can load up ;-)

Now, however, on the command line output you will see the "User Location: lat=X lon=Y" and "N boats within LOS distance" prepended with the session token for that race/session - something like [6b5cff12ee5f1e799965537ab378dfa8].

Redownload from the original link :-)

NOTE: 'line of sight' distance can be specified separately for each race with "-race ID=DISTANCE" or "-race 362=5.0" for each race. -distance option stuill owrks with -race options, and any race loaded but NOT specified by a -race option will just use the default distance or whatever is psecified in -distance. DO NOT put in spaces, like 'id = distance'

The documentation file has been updated to reflect these changes, please read as the new command line options are fully explained.

NOTE: It seems that IE uses can have similar functionality to what FoxyProxy offers Firefox users, with this addon - IE7Pro. I havent used it myself (FF user), but this page details its use to quickly turn a proxy server on or off in IE.

Perhaps use the blog page to report any issues in the future? That was i get emailed when something is reported, and it all stays together to. The blog cvan be found here

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
